    Perspex

Where can I buy just enough perspex to cover the side of a case? i.e. about 50x50cm. I've been to Focus and Homebase but the cheapest they have is £14 for a huge sheet. When I asked if I could buy just half a sheet I was told "Yes but I would have to charge full price". I went to Hobbystores but they only go up to A4 size. Checked ebay and the prices they're selling it for are silly.

Also, are people just using rotary tools to cut the case? I have a cheap one with what is supposed to be a cutting tool but pretty much all it does is strip the paint.

umm, heres an idea, buy a sheet from homebase, and get them to cut it into however many 50 x 50 cm panels they can get out of it (may cost you a couple of quid). use one and sell the rest on ebay.

    Re: Perspex

I've not tried cutting perspex with my rotary tool but I do know you can crack or shatter it if you're not carefull.

I'd agree with Magnus here, £14 get a big sheet and get them to cut it up into smaller bits, don't sell the spare on ebay untill you're finished incase you break one and need another.

Rotary tool vary so does the quality of the bits, I got one from woolworths of all places, £20 on half price sale.
The tool is nice but the disks are a bit cheap, I used up nearly all the cutting disks when I modded my server case.

Will a local modelling or craft shop sell something like that or Lexan which is similar to perspex ?

    Re: Perspex

A google search on Perspex sheet gave a number of sources, but I didn't investigate to see what the prices were or the order quantities.

It is tricky to cut smoothly and get good edges - some companies offer a cutting/machining service, so although the initial cost may be higher, you might find it cheaper long term in that you get what you want first time - and possibly a better finish.

    Re: Perspex

I used a lot of Homebase perspex to replace the windows in my shed.

They are covered in a plastic film on both sides and you can score them with a knife (on both sides) and snap them. The breaks are, if you get it right, perfect. Don't use any cutting tools on them.

Buy a sheet, cut it up for your use and flog the rest, as UltraMagnus says, on ebay
