Drill + Old CPU = ?

I need some advice on what drill bits if any, I should use to drill a hole in a CPU.

Below are some images of what I'm asking, where I have circled, is where i started boring a hole, I'd like to drill all the way through.



What drill bits etc will I require, or is there another better method?

And before you ask, I accidentally broke the CPU when swapping a heatsink.

The thermal compound made the CPU stick to the bottom of the cooler, the way the cooler is removed caused a few rows of the conducting pins to bend on removal.

Seeing as my PC means a lot to me, I figured I'd make it into a necklace type thing for my girlfriend and yes I AM aware of how shamelessly tacky it is but, I'd like to give her something no one else ever will.

I've one this with a std drill bit from a DIY store & a dremmel. Should go thro faily easily.

u do know she will dump you once her mates see said gift

and personally i would drill through the heat spreader, chance is it will snap off the corner if it gets caught (or thats the excuse she will use after ripping it off that night )

I know what shes like and she wants me to make it for her, she keeps pestering me about it

I'm tempted to take your advice, but it seems like a pretty hardy material, doesn't feel or seem brittle.

serious bud, its not a load bearing type thing like the metal on the spreader will be !

and of course you need to smooth the edges off so you dont cut her and thats going to reduce the gap from the edge.

its lots of thin layers stuck together, so when it does go, thats it.

Ok then, what if I remove the heatspreader and then drill further in, I already know how thats done.

This will also remove a massive amount of the weight and make it less tacky.

Its fibre glass and will drill easy. I can't really see what the fuss is about TBH ! I used to use 1mm drills at high speed to make my own circuit boards, must have drilled 100,000 holes in my life in this stuff

From my extremely (i exaggerate extremely here, i really mean it) limited knowledge of DIY, with some common sense thrown in, I would go for a regular wood bit, but at a VERY high speed, and VERY little pressure. This should limit the damage done to the board.

A 1mm drill ' will do the bis' -go through the board like butter.
