    Project Digital Bedroom

Right, its kinda' a project, it's a bit long term though - but I'll stick it in here anyways.

    My room is currently as follows;
    - Rubbish unstable £30 Argos desk
    - System in "My System"
    - Relativley cheap (but admittedly quite nice) Bush 20" Flat CRT TV
    - Various other digital things unrelated to this

Now, it's not brilliant, and so it's going to be changed.

The new desk is this one, and it is arriving tomorrow

Bigger, better and more stable than what I have justnow, it shall hold this machine and monitor for the next 2-4 weeks until the new machine is built () - speaking of new machine, here is the proposed spec, any suggestions welcomed - I shall post it in a more visited forum closer to buying time to get more opinions.

Other plans include moving this current machine into a SFF case of some sort, and using it in conjunction (eventually) with a 26" Samsung HDTV for Media Center/Xbox360 (also needs purchasing, probably Xbox 360 Elite, cuz' black looks cooler!), and to perhaps serve as a file store for remote access to files etc, we shall see how that turns out - basically, it'll be a Media Center machine with anything else I fancy chucked on. And it will probably use Ubuntu 6.06/7.04, depending on which is the best bet for MythTV (or even if there is any difference in running MythTV on them), that still needs researched.

So yeah, this shall be updated whenever something happens, beginning with the desk over the weekend, and the new PC 2/3 weeks afterwards

    From one Argos to another?

Well my old desk (old as in no longer mine as my other half stole it for her drawing ) was a very simple, cheap and practical arangement (not amazingly pritty)
Two equil sized freestanding units (one cupboard and set of draws) and a giant slab of lamernate surfaced chip board on top (kitchen worksurface type stuff) The whole lot cost me £15 from a reclumation yard

Here's an idea for you, depending on how heavy that tv is and how strong&heavy the case is.
All flat screen TV/monitors have a set of 4 screw holes on the back for wall mounting / other brackets
So drill 4 holes in the side of the case and bolt the TV to it when you turn it into a mediacenter.
Granted it'll increase teh foot print, but hey it'll be fun.

Well, the desk arrived today - at 11:41 apparently, after having the Argos delivery chaps call me and ask where [road I live on] was in the village of [wrong village]!

So that should be sitting waiting for me when I get home, I can stick it up tonight - and try out my new speakers, which should arrive today from Scan, they again should be delivered to the neighbours so I don't have to pick 'em up tomorrow.

I shall post pics of old PC/new desk this evening/tomorrow, see how silly it looks with a CRT Monitor!
