Built a new system using a Stacker 830 as a base. The PC isn't working yet, but I do have some comments about the case.
- There are lots of sharp edges inside, my hands look like I scrubbed them on a cheese-grater.
- The drive cage is utter ****. It's supported by a couple of tiny screws, and when you've got three hard disks (the max you can realistically fit) in there is unbelievably annoying to install. By default it's positioned at the bottom of the chassis, which makes sense as there are no quick-release latches for 5.25 drives there, but for some reason though there is a gap underneath it and nothing to support the cage. You have to balance it with one hand - keeping the holes aligned - and try to screw it in with the other.
- The quick release latches make it very easy to install a drive, which I like, but they don't work all that well. When locked in place the drives can still be moved vertically, which doesn't inspire confidence, I suspect that they will rattle around when a disc is spinning in there and if you push a little too hard the drives come loose again. It's also difficult to install anything that isn't a 5.25 DVD/CD drive - an Akasa fan controller only just about stays in place.
- The top drive cage, meant for a Raptor X ideally, is a ****ing pain in the arse to install and even when fitted it is not secure enough. The clips on the rear hold tight but it falls out from the front with very little pressure. It dropped out twice when I was hooking it up.
I read a lot of reviews about this case and others in the series, none of them seemed to have the problems I did. Maybe it's because I'm not fiddling about with cases every other day, but there are some glaring faults in the design of this enclosure. I'm sure it'll be lovely when it's all up and running, it certainly looks great on the outside, but putting it together was not a happy experience.
