Question about fans and graphics cards
I recently got a Gigabyte V-power cooler for my xfx 7900GS xxx
http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/...ctName=V-Power
It comes with a fan controller with a knob on a rear pci slot Blank.
Now I really don't think that a fan controller on the back of your case is very usefull, so I could plug it into my front pannel Zalman fan controller.
However I was thinking of connecting it directly to the card, like the stock cooler fan was.
What I'm wondering about is that the stock fan is 12v 0.19a where as the fan on the gigabyte is 12v 0.23a
I'd prefur to have the fan speed controlled by the card, so that it'll ramp up the speed when it's needed, as I don't wnat to have it too slow and cook the card.
So my question is would this 0.04a difference be a problem? Could the additional power draw cause damage to the card? or would the fan have problems running?
Re: Question about fans and graphics cards
That's only a tiny amount of additional draw so you should be fine. Those Arctic coolers run larger fans which plug into the graphics header without any probs.
Anyway, it's a better heatsink so why not just plug it into the Zalman? If your Zalman controller supports temp probes you're on a winner, as you could put a probe in (by GPU) and monitor the temp of the card too. :)
Re: Question about fans and graphics cards
I'm useing the ZM-MFC1 Plus which doesn't support tempture probes.
I've got it pluged into the zalman atm and it is pritty damb quite at full wack :D
Although I'll probably try plugging it into the card so I can free up a port on the zalman ;)
