    Project: SeeThru Silence

I got bored of the noise my fatality cpu fan was making and I really wanted a nice and silent 4gig machine. After a couple of quick measurements of my current akasa see thru case I placed an order for some nice shiny watercooling bits!

Anyway, I put together a test loop and leak tested it for 24 hours. By that time I'd finished modding the case and after 8 hours of sweating and swearing here's what I've got so far:

It's not quite finished yet and I've still to buy a grill for the fans at the top. The components are mostly xspc stuff with some fesser one UVacidgreen thrown in the mix. The fans are 2x120mm Xilence fans @ 7v and 2x80mm Akasa fans @ 7v too.

    Specs of Pc are:

    Intel E8200
    Abit IP35pro
    2gig Ocz PC8000
    Corsair 620watt Psu
    BFG 8800gts 320mb

Gonna leave it on overnight and try overclocking it in the morning. Wish me luck!

    Re: Project: SeeThru Silence

I'm gonna have to get a bios update to fix the temps as apparently the cpu is at 50 degrees C on idle and on full load. I overclocked it to 4gig and the temps still stuck at 50 idle and load! If the bios update doesn't work I've got a spare E2140 I can stick in to see what readings I get with it.

A nice, simple water loop. Very well done that man.

Is the pump a submerged one as part of the res? If so, isn't it going to be a bit of a pain if it fails? Oh, and what about heat dump?

    Re: Project: SeeThru Silence

yeh, it's an XSPC res with built in pump, pretty new to the market I think. I got it for £35 so if it does fail I don't mind forking out just £35 for pump and res. Not sure about heat dump. I'm moving house just now so I'm a bit busy but I'll modding this alot further. I'll be sticking in some temp probes to gauge water temp in and out etc and maybe mount the readouts in the spare 3.5inch bays at the front.

    Re: Project: SeeThru Silence

Sorry for the lack of updates, been moving house..........back in with the rents Can save some money for a proper house with the girlfriend now tho.

Anyway, I got a UV Blue 2x120mm AC Ryan fan grill for the top. Thinking about cutting the clear 5.25" front face plates and mounting blue or green temperature lcds to indicate temps in and out of the rad.

Hard disk wise I'm going to change to a single 500gb Samsung spinpoint and stick all the other hard disks in the server and see if that makes a difference noise wise.

I also had some problems with the motherboard; when I flashed to the latest bios the motherboard refused to boot and threw a C1 memory error. I swapped out the memory for some pc6400 stuff and the pc booted fine. I flashed back to the old bios and the memory worked again! Anyway, I bought some crucial ballistix pc8500 and they work fine with the updated bios which has also fixed the cpu temp in the bios which had previously read 5 degrees C!

You may also have read about the problems with wolfdale temps not being interpretted correctly. Personally I like realtemp now but I'll let you guys decide what you think is correct according to the screenshot below.

Overclocking wise I'm sitting stable @ 4gig and orthos'd it last night, it managed 8 hours on "Stress Cpu" with max temp 53 degrees, but Orthos quit after 9 hours which I though was wierd. I'll tweak the voltages a bit more and see what I get.
