Lian Li vs Antec vs Coolermaster

Ok so i am looking to build a PC in the easter holidays last week as i mention in my last thread.

Pretty much like most systems people have on here

    Abit ip35 pro
    q6600
    8800gt
    ultra 120/mine

Now I have hit a dilemma with the case.

Have had lian li in the past, it was the pc 60, was originally going to get a stacker for this build but it was too deep and the cosmos s is also too deep, looked at the p182 but i didnt like the front door and the power button

have now seen the lian li pc a17b but dont know what the noise levels of the case are like, I imagine thermal performance will be good, any body got this case or the pc a16 which was the previous model?

Also the p182 has pretty good cable management, similar is mentioned for the lian li in reviews but ihavent seen any testimonies lol, will be looking to get from OCUK :S So wish me luck if i do choose it, any feedback would be appreciated thanks

Re: Lian Li vs Antec vs Coolermaster

Have you looked at the antec 900? I believe it has similar dimensions to the the P182 and has no door.

I had a pc60 in the past and the build quality was great but the thermal performance was relatively poor. The 17b looks like it should have decent airflow though.

    900. But i must warn you, i'm EXTREMELY partial to that case... the CM690 looks so bland and boring, while i know little about Lian-Li except that they tend to be expensive, but correct me if i'm wrong on that

Re: Lian Li vs Antec vs Coolermaster

Found a review of the PC-17. From the way you've worded the question and the positive points you give the Lian Li case I suspect this is the case you want and you just want confirmation rather than alternatives. By the way the door on the P182 rotates through 270 degrees so it can fold flush against the case.

Lian Li PC-A17 Aluminum Mid-Tower Chassis Reviews - OCIA.net is the most detailed review I can find.

Re: Lian Li vs Antec vs Coolermaster

Cosmos S out of my price range, i dont like cases that you need to open the door for for access, lian li will be nice as it is all aluminium and accessories are easy to get, problem is OCUK lol, be nice with blue fans and stuff though, really hi quality case it is.

Last lian li i had was the pc 60 with my p4 2.0 478 system was a dream.

Many thing i want to know really is thermal and acoustical performance

Like dodgybob I found the PC60 to not have very good thermal performance. And it wasn't very quiet either. So I fail to understand why you liked it so much if your criteria are good thermal and acoustical performance.

The good thing about Lian Li cases is the build quality. But that doesn't guarantee good performance.

That "review" is unfortunately typical. We see 5 pages of telling us nice features but not a damn word about noise and only the vaguest statements about cooling - "it has blah blah fans so it must be good" seemed to be the nature of the message. I would expect the thermal performance to be quite good; my only worry would be that the sum of the fans is less than the parts. But I bet it's not quiet with the fans on full.

Re: Lian Li vs Antec vs Coolermaster

Thorsson the reason i liked the pc 60 is because i was about 10 or 11 at the time so back then it didnt make a difference to me and i dont remember it at all. Just remember it looked nice, didnt even look at temps then, just broke pcs that my dad built lol

It was 300 quid this case then :O

If you change the default fans, yes, noise will be better. Maybe cooling gets affected. Certainly the price increases.

cant see why cooling would be an issue with a full drilled front, 140mm on top 120mm on back 120 at front and a scythe mine or tr extreme 120, it should be ok?

Re: Lian Li vs Antec vs Coolermaster

I'm also after a new case and need a relativley shortcase due to restictions on my pc desk, but need it wide enough to accomodate a Xigmateck s1283 cpu cooler.
I also need something with top notch air flow as my 8800ultra xxx and oc'd e6850 get toasty.

From what i've found doing many hours of searching is that 2 cases make the final selection

    Lian Li A17 Lian Li PC-A17 Aluminum Mid-Tower Chassis Reviews - OCIA.net
    Akasa Mirage 62 techPowerUp! Review :: Akasa Mirage-62 :: Page 1 / 5

Both retail at about £100 (from oc.uk and scan repectivley)

I'm unsure which to get still, but i'm positve either will suit the purpose perfectly.
The Lian Li has a completley vented front and a top exhaust fan, the akasa only has a bottom front fan and no top exhaust. But the akasa is slightly wider and you can get an optional side (£18) with included VGA cooling fan.

    Ah decisons decsions

Re: Lian Li vs Antec vs Coolermaster

Is it just me or does anyone else think that the Lian-Li cases top exhaust vent is going to be almost pointless about the only thing that is going to be cooled by it is your memory oh and its going to be removing your cool air coming in from the front rather than it going through your CPU cooler...

Oh and aluminium cases tend to be noisy due to the thinner and lighter nature of the panels they tend to vibrate more. You can buy acoustic foam to dampen this but then your adding another £20-30 to the price.

    Just my thoughts
