    Need a BIG Case

I am looking for a case that can hold at least 9 3.5" hard drives and 1 5.25" optical drive. I do not mind using 5.25" -> 3.5" converter trays.

So far the best I have found is the Antec "Nine Hundred" which can hold 8x3.5" and 1x5.25" (using two 5.25 -> 3.5 converters).

Ideally I am looking for one which can hold 10 hard drives and 1 optical drive but I won't push my luck!

    Re: Need a BIG Case

I am sure the Thermaltake Armor / Kandalf with 3 Icage add ons could hold 12 drives with space for one optical drive if you remove the little tidy tray thing at the bottom.

each 5.25" fan has a cage that holds 3 drives

near the top at the back of the case there is another cage with space for another 3 drives.

The case comes with 1 ICage so you will need to buy 2 extra cages at about £10 each incl P&P With this I expect you would't need to worry to much about cooling even though you are using all those drives.

The Sharkoon Rebel12 has 11 5.25" bays and 6 separate hd bays. Stick 3 converters in and you could hold 18 hd's!!! Dont bother with the one with the side fan tho, more expense and those big side fans just interrupt airflow.

    Coolermaster Stacker RC-810. 11 5.15" bays.

With a few of these you could get 12x 2.5" drives in there:

And with these, you could get 15x 3.5" drives and still have room for a couple of opticals

    Re: Need a BIG Case

TJ-07 would be awesome, but prices seem to have gone up quite drastically on scan, or something like the coolermaster stacker.

Antec's new case should be out soon I'd imagine, the big brother of the 900 and I think it was 11 bays rather than 9.

Yeah, dont get me started on that! :\

I've been thinking of buying one for a while, but its gone up about 60 quid!!
Most other places have had an increase too, but no where near to the same value (around a tenner in most places). They drop on Today Only, but it means waiting for the Silverstone stuff to come back on - which doesn't help with me and my impulse buys

    Re: Need a BIG Case

I seem to remember looking at the rebal 9 before, I was not massively impressed, it's actually a pritty basic design and not that good. (although stealing all the mesh front blanks would be nice )
The rebal 12 however looks far better, with the motherbaord at the top and the PSU below it. 140mm rear fan and you could probably fit a couple of 80mm's below the psu behind thoes lower HDD cages, really suck the air out.
Shame about the crappy side fan slapped on there.

    Re: Need a BIG Case

The rebel12 comes in 2 forms, one with the side fan and one without. The one without is both cheaper and better! The design is so much better than the rebel9 which is just a pretty standard layout but with the 9 5.25 bays at the front.

    Re: Need a BIG Case

Coolermaster CMStacker 830/830 Evo/831/832 will do it, it comes with the 4-in-3 device, which is basically a little box that takes up 3 bay slots but fits 4 drives and has a fan mount on the front. You could us 2 of them and then use the raptor x slot on the top of the case, leaving you 3 spare bay slots. Not only could you get all your drives in there, they will be nicely cooled as well.
Scan should have most of those in stock, as well as the extra 4-in-3 device you would need (costs £10).

Mozart tx is not a good case. Had one and it was a great idea, but the side panels came of the wrong way were hinged to the case. They alway got in the way when trying to poke around.

Lian Li 343 is awesome but like a few review have said, its does amplify internal sounds. The case is made thin and because of the size seems a little too thin and wobbly.... Brill case.

The thermaltake armours are very good sturdy cases. On my second now, after buying the mozart tx and selling swiftly online.
