new case up to £60 inc - but want it quiet

    hi

i am looking to get a new case and psu. i have selected the corsair modular psu 520 wt (which should be whisper quiet)so need a case.

my hdd is being replaced by a samsung spinpoint sata 2 500 gig which i hope is as quiet as stated, my o/c 512 mg 3850 g/card is quiet so want a case to match with good cooling and quiet fans.

what are the best cases within my small budget. may be able to sell old parts to raise more cash or dvd's.

    thanks

I'd try and find an extra £20 and get an Antec P182. Fantastic case for quiet operation. The stock fans are a faint whisper on low setting but changed for something like nexus I'm confident it would essentially be silent

    There is also this
Computer hardware and software at amazing prices, available online from Scan Computers UK

which is a very good Case + PSU combo. I believe the psu is modular to

Re: new case up to £60 inc - but want it quiet

It is indeed a modular PSU in fact it is one of these Antec Neopower 550 only has an 80mm fan compared to the newer 120mm but claims to operate at 18dB which isn't exactly loud! It also comes with a 5 year warranty, so not a bad option at all.

If you still prefer the Corsair PSU but like the case then you can get the case separately its called the Antec Solo Computer hardware and software at amazing prices, available online from Scan Computers UK and it is in your price range as well, you will probably need a couple of fans to go in it though, but realistically for a really quiet system you would need to for most cases.

Silent, I have similar hardware setup as you.
Can you tell me what max fsb you've achieved with your setup?

btw, good to see another blue round the forum.

Re: new case up to £60 inc - but want it quiet

Geil Ultra needs a lil voltage boost if you want to clock a bit.
    I have mine at 2.1v running at 472 x 7.
Nice fsb from relatively cheap ram.

So these lil Allendale 6300's have decent headroom.

I am not a gamer so I don't mind the loose timings and 2T.

Re: new case up to £60 inc - but want it quiet

Another side question vaio, what cooler are you useing to get thoes speeds?

back to the topic at hand
that new Sonata looks intresting, seems like they've moved away from that half door design they used on the first 3 revisions of it.
(antec do a neohe 550w that comes with a 120mm fan but I don't think it's this one)

Slightly cheaper, the Antec Sonata 3 (comes with 500w earthwatt psu)
Computer hardware and software at amazing prices, available online from Scan Computers UK
It's not a modular psu but still a good one and will power you rig with some head room.
(note bothe the earthwatts and NeoHE are made by seasonic )

Other option might be to stick with the corsair HX and see if you can pick up a cheap P180 someplace. a couple of months back they were being flogged off cheap to get rid of old stock (as the P182 has replaced it)

Re: new case up to £60 inc - but want it quiet

Antec Solo is supposed to be a nice quiet case.
    May I make a suggestion?

Just buy whatever case you fancy that has 120mm fan mounts and then swap out for quieter fans if need be?

@ Pob255.........Until earlier this week I was using an Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro.....swapped it out for a Xigmatek S1283 which is performing about 6c cooler.

Temp readings in screenie are with the Xigmatech.

Wow, lucky draw for the CPU? High FSB, but low vcore. Has anyone got comparable numbers?

E6550 rather than a E6300 but same multiplier

Higher FSB and lower volts and all on a G33 chipset

Well I pushed mine a bit further today as well

Have to stop here though as the memory wont go any faster

Core voltage is not optimised yet will probably be able to bring it down a bit, took it up 0.05v to check for stability, will lower it again once I know its stable at these speeds.
