Problem with new self built system

    Hello everyone!
I'm new, I spent half a day reading posts about problems people have encountered when trying to build their own pc because I have a problem but I'm not sure what it is and I'm hoping somebody may know what it is.

I just put together my new pc which included a maximus extreme motherboard. When I powered it up for the first time it comes on then restarts (more of a cut out) then after 5/10 seconds it does this again and again.

I dont know what this is but it just keeps on doing it. If anyone has any ideas please let me know.

    Kind Regards

strip it to cpu and heatsink, video and 1 stick of ram, see if it boots then

worth double chekcing the heatsinks on correct as well.

fill in your system specs or list everything your running on it to make it easier for us

Re: Problem with new self built system

Post your components up - that'll help us

If I were you, I'd take it all out of the case and instal the motherboard, RAM, heatsink and Graphics Card on a bit of cardboard and see if it runs then. If it does try removing one stick of RAM or move the positions of the RAM and also remove the graphics card and see if it boots.

Ok thanks. Will try all that now. Don't know if this is useful but the lcd poster that comes with the motherboard says 'cpu init'. Not sure what it means. But will try out ur ideas.

Re: Problem with new self built system

I also tried changing the graphics card with my older pc which works. So not that. RAM i'm sure works. CPU is taken out of my old machine and psu (coolermaster 1000w). so does that leave it to the motherboard then?

Re: Problem with new self built system

just had a google around and found other people having same problem...

    some causes -

the cpu isn't installed correctly, failing cpu initialisation - thats where the cpu init comes in - reseat the cpu and heatsink, make sure the thermal paste is applied correctly.

the bios doesn't support the chip you are using - try an older cpu and flash to the newest bios, try old cpu again.

have you got the rev 1.00 or the rev 1.03 board? - the 1.00 had plagues of these problems, time for an RMA, get the newer board.

try a hard bios reset - involves moving jumpers, and turning it on and of, not sure how to do on this board, have a read in the manual.

the connectors are not on properly - re-plug the 24 pin and the 8pin, make sure the front panel connectors are on the correct way round and on the right pins..

Re: Problem with new self built system

Hey, been speaking to a few people and I think what I have to do is change the cpu and put an older one in. But what old cpu should I buy? It has to be 45nm compatible??? Please tell me any suggestions. Blasted Asus Motherboard!!!

Re: Problem with new self built system

Oh dear, if you need an older CPU to be able to flash the BIOS to be able to use your current CPU, that's a real swine.
Up to now i was wondering if you maybe had some poor electrical grounding (hence the good suggestion above to place on cardboard as an insulator), but i agree that BIOS flashing is the more likely solution.

Is it this ASUS Maximus Extreme?
    You either need to:
A - send the motherboard back to the vendor and ask them to do it (and you'll probably have pay for postage both ways)
B - borrow a friends socket 775 CPU (which sounds like it could even be a 775 pentium 4) and use that
C - buy the cheapest one possible, and either keep it for spares or sell it on ebay / here. Perhaps a socket 775 Celeron?

All in all, sorry dude, i can't think how you can do this for free.
And i hope that BIOS is the issue, or it's an expensive way to rule it out
I'm commenting on an internet forum. Your facts hold no sway over me.

Re: Problem with new self built system

Yes, I think its a BIOS issue. I was just wondering what cpu's I could buy that aren't too expensive to update the BIOS then put in my QUAD core in my Asus Maximus Extreme. Thanks

Re: Problem with new self built system

i actually had the same issue - i stripped the system down - seperated every component. then rebuilt it and problem was gone. i think it was a problem with cpu being incorrectly seated - but not sure. time consuming but worth a try.

Re: Problem with new self built system

Hey problem solved. Thanks everyone for the ace help! I bought a core 2 duo that worked, then updated the bios over the internet. Why do Asus build mobos for the latest hardware if they can't support them? Idiots! Anyway working well now (touch wood) and got Q6600 back in there. Thanks alot!!!
