Hi, does anyone know whether a 8800gtx graphics card will display on a HD Ready lcd via dvi? Mine does display anything?
Does the TV have a DVI input or are you using a DVI to VGA/HDMI convertor?
It should work though yeah.
dvi to hdmi cable, no display tho?
could it be the resolution?
i dont have a monitor. Just goes straight to tv via dvi to hdmi cable. It is on the right channel etc lol. I've been using my tv for a while. But got a new graphics card so tried that but there was no display. So i've put my old one back in to use the computer. Just want to figure out what the problem is. I would imagine the res wudnt be a problem for the 720p tv. Cud it be its size? 32"?
Ok, I'll explain how this is for my TV because it could be a very similar problem.
I've used by TV as a monitor for about a year since I got fed up of working in my tiny bedroom and for the most part its worked great.
But my TV, A Sony 32" is very specific about which resolutions it takes. I use mine via VGA because it's simpler and it takes a total of 2 resolutions.
Thats 1024 X 768 (4:3)
and 1280x768 (16:9)
If your using any other res try changing it to one of those because they are the defaults for most panels.
This is actually rather annoying though because for example DOS screens use a difference resolution so DOS is not visible on my PC...
Which means when my PC fails to boot into windows.. I have to lug my families huge 22" CRT about and plug that critter in.
Its a Sony KDL-S3000 32".
With your current card uninstall drivers, then use driver cleaner to clean the system completely of the previous drivers.
Insert new card...
Does the boot screen come up? If so try below
There is another mode known as "VGA mode" which allows Windows to be fully functional except it uses a plain old VGA (circa 1987) video mode. You get into VGA mode the same way as safe mode except you select "Enable VGA Mode" rather than "Safe Mode" on the startup menu. If you are sure that your display adapter is the problem then use VGA mode rather than safe mode. If VGA mode cannot boot then you can try safe mode which almost always boots.
Press F8(VGA MODE) instead of F5(Safe mode)
Then try to change to one of the resolutions below USE HDMI (av5)
Resolutions your tv support via HDMI socket-av5(DVI)
VGA 640x480 @ 60HZ
SVGA 800x600 @ 60HZ
XGA 1024x768 @ 60HZ
WXGA 1280X720 @ 60hz
WXGA 1280x768 @ 60HZ
WXGA 1360x768 @ 60HZ
Then once you selected a res reboot, if it works then install latest drivers for your card/os.
Then see if it boots.
Let me know how you get on.
The thing is the boot screen does not display.
