    Case fans

    Hi,

I know it sounds stupid, but is it the shiny side (the side with the label) on a fan, that pulls the air in, and the other side of the fan is used as an exhaust ?

    Re: Case fans

if you feel the 'scoop' on the fan blades....

if it's like the end of a spoon, that is the way the air will blow (i.e. the bit where the icecream goes... the inset part..)

the other side is where the air is pulled in from, which feels like the back of a spoon...
    Ish

or there is normally and arrow on the fan showing the direction of airflow...

    Re: Case fans

If you face the unprotected side of the fan, ie the spinning face you are facing the direction of airflow.

    Re: Case fans

I'm just trying to picture it:

a fan blowing clockwise its blowing out air (so the fan at the front of my case, should be clockwise)
and the fan to be used as an exhaust, so be spinning anti-clockwise ?

    Re: Case fans

all fans spin the same way, use the method i've stated it's way easier.

if you're facing this side of the fan the air is flowing towards you into your face. the other side and the air is being sucked away...

    Re: Case fans

easiest way to find out is to just plug them into mobo/fancontroller , but not clip them or screw them into case.. turn on PC and then holding the fan in your hand, feel which way the air blows - it should be quite obvious.. then turn off PC and secure all the fans whichever way you want them to blow.. job done in 5 minutes or less...

theoretical stuff can get complicated.. practically doing something is often the easiest way...

    Re: Case fans

look on the side of the fan, most have 2 arrows, 1 indicating direction of airflow and the other indicating direction of the fan blades.

Exactly what i was going to say It's especially noticable with 2000rpm fans. Boy do they shift air!

    Re: Case fans

I use moogle's method. The fan blows over the frame, so in his pic you can see the frame and wires so the fan is blowing towards you.

There are also often 2 arrows on the side of the fan somwhere that indicate rotation direction and airflow direction.
