    Very Durable Case, suggestions?

I'm going to get my younger brother a new case for his system, which isnt very powerfull and for a good reason, carelessness. He takes his system with him wherever he can. But you would not believe how many times he's dropped it, spilt things on it and even vomited on it .

I wouldent trust him with a laptop as they're far to expensive to replace parts or entirly every couple of months.

Being a system builder myself i've always got spare parts and old cases laying arround so whenever i come accross something i don't need myself and its better than what he's got, it goes into his system so a standard atx size case is needed.

Idealy if they made those silocone protectors you can get for phones/wii remotes in a size suitable to go on an atx case that would be problem solved. Not exactly ideal for heat dissipation i know but we're not talking about a high end pc here.

Such a pc case in all probability does not exist but i thought if there was anywhere i might find someone who has a solution to this problem i'd find the answer from the hexus community although my first time posting here it's far far from my first time reading here, Greetings to all of you. Dave

PS i've tried beating him over the head and telling him to look after it and though you would think eventually the message would get through it never seems to work.

    Budget?

Since he likes to take his system with him... have you considered an SFF case - rather than a tower?

Lead lineing so it's too heavy to pick up?

I cannot think of anything you can buy, you're probably best off with a normal case and modding it to purpose.
Personally I'd look at something half decent, steel, with solid internal construction.
Then look at some high density foam you could glue onto the outsides the protect it.
A camping carry mat (the roll of 1cm thick foam sheets you can buy for sleeping on) it should be good enough to shield it from knocks.
Also one or two solid carrying handles screwd onto the top might be a good idea as well.

A lan box style case as they are small and you could always get him a carrying harness, plaves like Kustom PC stock them for carrying it about.

Wrapping it in foam, not only would you take away the natural cooling properties of having a steel or Al case but it wont stop the internals from been knocked about.

There are indestructible laptops available, used by the US military, we know how clumsy they are! Though i guess they would come at a premium.

I would have given up fixing it for him a long time ago in that case. Force him to buy replacement parts himself as opposed to giving free upgrades. Hit him where it hurts: the wallet.

    Re: Very Durable Case, suggestions?

Its vibration and shock that breaks stuff when you drop it,

Sound is a vibration, so heavy soundproofing should act as low end shock absorber, other than that, unless you can give your motherboard some suspension, theres not alot you could do inside the case (vibration/proof the hard drive obv, but not sure how you'd secure expansion slots)

Short of turning the comuputer into a tyre however, I'm not sure what you could achieve. (However, how cool would that be, a custom PC in a drag tyre ^_^)

You could just smack him round the head every time he drops it. I think eventually he will get the point.

    Re: Very Durable Case, suggestions?

Probably a bit big but Cheif tec make solid cases, the one i have (in storage now lol) is very thick metal but is pretty big in hight and isnt very light lol. Cost me around £80 when it was released awhile back, cant remember what model it is but its survived me kicking it, dropping thingsd on it and animals trying to destroy it. Only got a few chips on the paint after years of beating lol, if hes taking it around though this will probably force him to put wheels on it. Just buy him an xbox(not 360) they were SOLID units, my mate dropped his down the stairs a few times and it still works 100% today.
