Want a case that stands out

With all the great help on these on boards i am nearly decided on a build. One bit i am struggling with is the case. I want one that makes an impression. i have been looking at the thermaltake armour, and tsunami they look nice but not sure about the cooling aspect of them and how easy they are for first time build. Any help appreciated.

The Armor is a fantastic case to build with due to its size and has full mesh at the front so you can add 120mm fans (upto 3 I think)

The only issue I have had with my Kandalf (Armor with a fancy front) is that the PSU can be a bugger to fit and you need to use a thermaltake I-Cage to fit the 120mm fans at the front.

Also the Thermalright 120 will fit no problem in this case as well as the longer graphics cards.

Cheers jay so you would reccomend the armour? i quite like the kandalf myself but would be puching the budget. What was the problem you had with the psu fitting? or was it just generally awkward?

Re: Want a case that stands out

If I had my time again I would have the Armor over the Kandalf as the front bit is of no use and only blocks airflow.

For ease of use they are very good, well set out inside etc. Just a very good mid range case.

Here you can see the 120mm fans behind the drive bay mesh

with the front closed (the armor looks better I think)

Sideways PSU in the background was a pain to get in, take the top USB ports out and its much more easy.

    Just a general view

Re: Want a case that stands out

Yeah I was having trouble deciding on a really good looking case a little while back.

Initially I wanted to get the Z-Machine but £300 was just out of reach. I looked at the likes of 1200 as well but I wanted something aluminium because I thought it looks much more sophisticated. The answer seemed to come when I read about the p182 but after seeing screenshots of it I wasn't too sure: it just looked like a really dull grey box.

Then I saw the Gigabyte Aurora 570 and I thought wow that looks good and at the right price too; I went on to read a few reviews and it got me thoroughly interested. I'm not doing my build until late August so I'm holding out at the moment for some of the newer stuff like the Raven and Tyr 500 to see if they're any good. But both Gigabyte cases (Aurora 570 and Mars) are currently sitting at top of the pile for me

I remember looking into the gigabyte case u mentioned with the projecter at the bottom!! Does look nice can't remember what put me off or whether I just forgot about it but the side window looks a tad small for the size off the case.

while on the topic of cases Is there any worthwhile contraption that worth taking a bay up with that would keep track of temps and load etc? Or are they a waste of space and more importantly stupid to install?

Re: Want a case that stands out

There's plenty of fan speed monitors out there that display speed and temps on a little lcd. Quite expensive though and really depends if you want that extra bit of information. I have never installed one so I don't know how hard it is, but a normal fan control is quick and easy to install.

Review of the 570 here: http://www.tbreak.com/reviews/article.php?id=483

I've got the original Aurora case, which I've been more than happy with, and the 570 apparently has 10% more space, so should be very easy to use.

One negative, in CustomPC's thermal imaging reviews of the original case, there was a question-mark over air-flow from the front 120mm fan, which meant a build-up of heat over the harddrive bays. Doesn't look as though it's been rectified in the 570.

I'm only running 2 harddrives there, so they're well spaced out, but you can see that the air is coming in from the right and hitting three blocks:
    1) a fine mesh to reduce dust getting in
    2) the aluminium fan enclosure which has a 120mm circle of 3mm holes
    3) the right wall of the harddrive bay

I ended up cutting out the perforated circle in (2) to help, but didn't take any readings before to be able to compare, so something to watch out for if you're planning to add a few hard drives and not using watercooling.

Was going to add a couple of these to help as well:

Yeah that's what I was worried about, but if I do get it then the first thing I'm going to do is take out that little black box; that should free up some room for the PC to breathe

    well there are two types.

    this takes 2 bays

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=458852

and I f it was that price when I got my single bay version I would have snapped it up.

It was easy to fit as its USB ans the cable was long enough to be able to be routed around the case and through an open PCI slot at the back.
