Can I paint before I cut? - Modding help as well!

Well my boring antec case needs some sprucing I think. Also I have never really modded a case before and this is cheap enough for me to mess up and it not matter!

Basicly the whole case shall be receiving a lick of paint and a few stencils. I would like to do this at the weekend while it has no parts in it.

I would also like to cut a rectangle just above the side fan as the PSU is bottom mounted, so that winow will show the mobo etc.

My question is..can I paint then cut the window at a later date? or should I cut the window then paint? or does it make no differnce!

Also if anyone has any other ideas/suggestions on what I can do to this case. (basic stuff only!) then please let me know. I would like to see hear peoples Ideas on paint schemes etc.

Any any tips on painting welcome.

    Cheers guys

I would always cut then paint as you'll ruin the finish and have to do it again later anyway.

I really should get myself a cheapycase to cut up again. I stencilled my name as a panel window and re-sprayed it metallic purple. Looked awesome! Almost got round to stealthing the drives and installing a fanbus but ran out of ooompf.

Definately cut first mate. Makes it harder to get a good finish if you got to paint it again after cutting

Never got into case moding, but as Tiggs and N3il said, cut first.

Once cut you will need to smooth off edges, this involves sanding and/or filing, both of which will scuff the paint. It will also be very easy to scratch your paint by mistake while cutting.

Cheers guys, thats what I thought.

What do you rekon on paint for this thing? I have accsess to most colours and type of paint lol.

Also is it best to spray a clear coat over the finished paint work? Is there a good product for this?

    I used Halfords...

Primer, 2 coats of paint then clear laquer. Lightly spray so you don't get drips... and a quick sanding down too so the primer holds.

Purple passion I think it was... it's the metallic ford fiesta purple!

I used Halfords primer and Ford Fiesta Green!

two coats of Primer, 24 hour wait then a light sand down. I used prepaint and a tak cloth and then 2 coats of green.

I will post pics up when its all finished.
