    How easy is it too...

How easy is it to cut two windows into the side of a case, and then put a perpex panel in one, and mesh/grating in the other, fitting fans onto the mesh and securing it all safeley?

Also, what sort of costs would I incurr?

wouldn't cost much at all, i'd say £30 max

If you have the tools and plan and prepare it properly i see no problem

    It's 4.98*

Re: How easy is it too...

    Seconded.

Easier if you can find someone with the power tools needed to cut metal and drill holes. (Knows what they are doing.)

Materials for this are pretty cheap. Small piece of perspex, small piece of mess, and nuts n bolts.

Re: How easy is it too...

Getting hold of the tools can cost you more than the materials.

And while the cost of mesh and purpex is low finding them can sometimes be a bit tricky.

How hard it will be comes down to planning, how good you are with the tools and what level of finish you expect. If this is you first time doing anything like this then and you want a very high quality finish, then it will be very hard to do.
Please don't let me put you off, you can still get a good finish and it is quite fun to do.

Tip: Check you local area sometimes you'll be surprised. a couple of moths ago I "discovered" a small shop that sells stuff for the building trade, I'd seen it before but never thought to go in, so I poped in on the off chance that they have some fine grade wet&dry paper (so I could lap my cpu) they did and I could buy it by the sheet and it only cost 50p a sheet
I also discovered they sold all sorts of sheet metal and mesh and such. Now if only I had the space and money to set up a workshop

Depending on what case it is, you might be able to buy a pre-cut windowed side panel, cheaper than it would cost to buy the tools and materials to do your own?

It won't give you any sense of satisfaction of course, and you'd have to accept the default design, so you have to weigh up the pros and cons of the two options.

    one word.

    Dremel.

though when you cut hole and use PVC or plastic to cover it, and thus make window, make sure you make the seal good, and it properly attacked to case, otherwise the window will vibrate a LOT.

Ah the Dremel, bless the maker!!

If you dont have the tools, beg, borrow or ........

You can also use double sided tape to hold the window on. Not the stuff you see in blue peter but the sort spiderman has on his hands, AH the secret is out!!

    3M make some.

It keeps the lines clear without any homebase nut and bolts sticking out the side of your case.
