    CoolerMaster 4-in-3

Its not clear from the pics and I can't find a review for it.

Does the fan on it sit behind the drive plates in your case, or do they need to be removed (thus the front of the case has a fan showing).

    Many thanks

I don't have one but would have to say that the fan would sit behind the drive bay covers otherwise it would look foolish!

If your like me (no sense at all) you would get a Silverstone CFP51 so pretty...

you dont actually see the fan, but the fan lights glow through the grills on the module.

    Re: CoolerMaster 4-in-3

There are actually two versions - this one (the original) is made specifically for the Coolermaster Stacker, and it sits *behind* the existing drive bay covers (which are perforated mesh in the Stacker). It's made out of steel, and the flat side attachment plates are designed for the Stacker's mounting rails - you can get it to fit into other cases, but the 5.25" bay support tabs you find in most cases will get in the way, and would have to be bent back. Also, with standard non-perforated 5.25" bay blanking plates left in place, there would be no direct air intake for the fan (which is a plain non-LED, if that matters).

The newer "universal" version (this one) is designed for any case with three free 5.25" bays - the Scan images don't show it very clearly, but it includes a mesh grille which actually replaces the drive bay covers, and the 120mm blue LED fan sits behind this. It's made of aluminium, unlike the steel Stacker version.

It's quite an effective solution if you're building a server on the cheap, provided you don't need hot-swappability or soft drive mountings (the inner cage does have rubber bushes, but they're too hard to provide effective noise insulation, particularly if all four slots are occupied).

    Hope this helps.
