Well, I'm half tempted to upgrade but, Don't want too spend much.

    Current system is:-

    P4 3.2ghz (640 i think?)
    gigabyte sis 648 motherboard
    2gb ram 400mhz ddr
    Radeon 9800 pro
    Raptor 74gb
    Maxtor 300gb

I don't do any gaming - Just web, email, documents and autoroute etc. Oh, and of course TV use.

You could get a cheap dual core based upgrade for about £120 and it would be overclockable to 2.4GHz+ (Intel).

    AMD:

Abit 780G ~£45 (great onboard graphics) You can also get decent 690G, asus M2A-VM, for £35. Still overs decent onboard graphics with VGA and DVI and Blu Ray capable with a decent X2 to lean on.

    2.5GHz X2 ~£45
    2GB PC6400 ~£30

    Intel:
    Pentium Dual core (1.8GHz stock)~£40
    Cheap mobo, G31, p31, P43 bases ~£35 - £60
    2GB PC6400 ~£30
Probably want a graphics card as well if yours isn't PCIe ~£25

Personally I'd take the AMD but the Intel path offers a decent quad core upgrade later if you felt the need. By the time you would want to though you will probably want a new system though.

By the look of things your current setup should do everything you need, but if you're set on upgrading then I'm with Mike's suggestion of a cheap AMD dual core.
