Re: Build Noob and Case Advice
Just got a 9800GTX and it fits in the case just :P, i believe the gtx280 etc use the same design as the 9800GTX by having the pci-e connectors on the side not the rear, fits good that way.
Enjoy your new system :).
Re: Build Noob and Case Advice
Monitor arrived nice and early this morning. I must applaud Dell on their excellent service and prompt delivery. I suppose i should also thank them for bringing this kick ass monitor into my life! It amazing! I would recommend it to anyone with out a shadow of a doubt. The build quality is superb, the colours are flawless, and the materials are stunning.
Really go treat youselves to a nice 24inch Dell for £179. You know you deserve it...you know you want it ;)
Ordering the rest of the build tonight...
Re: Build Noob and Case Advice
Hah, lucky for some. Wish i could afford £180 for a new monitor to replace this LG screen but sadly i cant, had to skimp on a mouse mat ! because of money being a bit tight. Hope you enjoy the monitor, keep it clean with a cloth or you wont enjoy the quality xD.
Re: Build Noob and Case Advice
You say the colours are flawless, is that your opinion or have you checked them with a hardware calibrator? Just being picky now since I got my hands on a calibrator and did my monitor and wow did it make a difference!
Re: Build Noob and Case Advice
what calibrator did you get and how much was it?.

Re: Build Noob and Case Advice
It was free an old-ish one (made in 2005 according to the box and unused) that a friend got given by his boss apparently it had just been in a cupboard and they were doing a clear out...
Anyway it is a MonacoOPTIX no longer being made but the actual calibrating hardware is made by GretagMacbeth (x-rite) and I used the software that came with it as well as Basiccolor to see what it could do, while my monitor has not been perfectly calibrated (not sure if this is just the monitor, calibrator or a combination of both) it has improved colour accuracy hugely average and max ΔE have fallen from 6.2 and 20 to 2.8 and 6.5.
The screen is easier to look at as well, the calibration lowered the luminescence to 120cd/m2 (which sounds dark) but with the colours corrected it looks perfect.
See TFTCentrals review of the Lacie Blue Eye Pro for more info in what settings you should try and achieve and what the ΔE values should be http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/lacie_blue-eye.htm
Surfice to say I will be getting a better/newer calibrator in the future but for now I can't complain with the results I am getting with this free one :)
For reference my colour temp after calibration was 6510K (target 6500) my white point 118cd/m2 my black point 0.16 cd/m2 which gives me a contrast ratio of 745:1 :)
Re: Build Noob and Case Advice
lol, sorry to disappoint but its just my opinion. Sorry. Its a gorgeous monitor for the dosh though...
