What to do when boredom ensues? part deux...
following on from the first session, some of you may know, that i have decided to mutilate the little beauty and make few improvements...
the most noticeable and the focus of this thread is the touchscreen...
and this time the pictures are crystal clear... honest they are... if they look blurry to you then you may need yours eyes checking ;)
okay... so i lied... they are probably worse this time around...
and hey ho, away we go again:
first up (as last time) is a picture of the sacrificial lamb:
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k...11008_1228.jpg
secondly is the touchscreen kit (the controller and the overlay):
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k...11008_1231.jpg
as mentioned above... here is the control board:
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k...008_123101.jpg
and here is the overlay...:
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k...11008_1232.jpg
now... to do the same as last time...
flip her over and undo her buttons :naughty:...:
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k...11008_1236.jpg
remove the keyboard same as last time:
first the little tabs:
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k...008_123601.jpg
then the cable:
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k...11008_1237.jpg
now disconnect the trackpad:
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k...11008_1238.jpg
undo all of the screws in the heatsinky/keyboard holdy/thingy ma bob:
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k...11008_1239.jpg
remove the plate by lifting and prising:
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k...008_124301.jpg
now you should have a pile of bits, if you havn't then your doing it wrong...:
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k...11008_1244.jpg
here you can see the thermal pad terror that i inflicted in the last rendition:

Re: What to do when boredom ensues? part deux...
now... the control board connects via USB... sooooo, the easiest way seeing as though i dont use the webcam?:
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k...11008_1322.jpg
is disconnect the webcam and splice the two cables...:
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k...11008_1337.jpg
this is where i am planning on putting everything...:
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k...11008_1324.jpg
so some plastic needed hacking off:
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k...11008_1328.jpg
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k...008_133401.jpg
the de-plasticated control board
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k...11008_1334.jpg
the awaiting splice:
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k...11008_1339.jpg
and while im waiting to splice the cable i might aswell partially re-assemble and use....:
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k...11008_1401.jpg
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k...31008_0228.jpg
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k...008_022801.jpg
the partial rebuild also eliminates my fears that i had broken the backlight...
thus concludes the current stage.......
such a lovely place to leave it for the time being :P
Re: What to do when boredom ensues? part deux...
A few quick questions:
1. How much is the touchscreen upgrade?
2. does it work with fingers as well as a pen?
3. does this just work with the Eee, or other netbooks too?
:)
Re: What to do when boredom ensues? part deux...
Nice! So what can Linux do with a touch screen? Or are you gonna stick XP Tablet PC edition on?

it cost me (i think) £27 for the overlay and controller board from ebay

it should do as it just reacts to pressure... but time will tell when i get it set up...

it works with anything if you can get the right size and make room for it (the overlay is about 3mm thick)

Well, i was going to whack XP Pro back on it again... buuuut i read somewhere that xandros picks it up fine (with a few tweaks) and then you can tweak the settings using (cant remember the program name and its really annoying me :() running under WINE.
Re: What to do when boredom ensues? part deux...
Another excellent article Tak Tak, I'm looking forward to the next update.
Re: What to do when boredom ensues? part deux...
Excellent. I envy people with the skills and nimble fingers to do this kind of thing. :)

i really dont have skills nimble fingers... and my soldering has become pants :( that is the main reason why i am splicing cables... as there is plenty of distance between them to maneuver in to solder them... and then just isolate from other things with electrical tape.
Re: What to do when boredom ensues? part deux...
Now you can interactively fondle the breasts on your favourite pr0n0s :naughty:

Re: What to do when boredom ensues? part deux...
Wasn't it why you did this mod in the first place?

strangely no...
i decided to go this route as i despise using touchpads... (sit at a dodgy angle with the eee so it gives my a hand cramp)
therefore the touchscreen would do away with the need to use it... :D
Re: What to do when boredom ensues? part deux...
That is brilliant Taktak :)
Soon you'll be working for Hexus doing Hexus mods on netbooks :P
Re: What to do when boredom ensues? part deux...
Or working in the pr0n industry designing new interactive products.
TAKTAK, you should develop a 3D screen for pr0n too

i highly doubt that... buuuuut... if theres a job going ;)
and i have been toying with the idea of a new 'lid' (i.e. get rid of ASUS and replace with TAKTAK :D), i need to get my head around fiberglass and etchings though, or just make a name plate and mount it in a sunken part...
