Full Tower case Selection 150 pounds

    Hey all,

I am building a new pc and I can't decide what case to buy?I am not gonna use it for water cooling, but want good cooling, dust filters and enough room for 1-2 large graphic cards. i have a few cases in mind but each one of them as a flaw or issue in some or other area!!

Haf932 It is ugly and has no dust filters,i had an antec 900 and after a few weeks it had so much dust in it,you could almost build a sand castle in it!

Cosmos 1000 The hdd cooling is not good enough

Cosmos s Hdd mounting cage setup is crap

Atcs 840 Awesome case, all i want but too expensive

Antec 1200 Nice case but worried its length is not more than my old 900,not enough room to install a large vid card and hdd with cable in line with each other.

Antec 183 Don't think this case has enough cooling for my setup

Antec 193 Side panel with mounted fan looks really crap

    Lian li a70b
    lian li a71b
    lian li a77b
    lian li a7010b

Are all options that i am considering atm

Thermaltake is not really an option as their cases does not have good buildd quality

Hope you can help me decide what to pick

    thx

The Antec P182 has plenty cooling IMO.

Other than that, maybe look at the silverstone fortress? Seems to be held in high regard

Re: Full Tower case Selection 150 pounds

im hardly sure but from what I see the cooling on a P183 rivels that in a 900 depending on how much the door obstucts airflow.

Opps sorry got confused with the P193 thinking that the P183 had 3 fans in the front sorry.

Have yout hought about a TJ09B with all the optional fans and the front top fan ducted into the CPU heatsink?

I have a TJ09 - pretty good airflow in it.
If I were going to buy a new case I would possibly go with the Silverstone Raven - not everyone's cup of tea I suppose but I like the layout of it and it might be about £10 over your budget.

    Thx for reply

I have actually been looking at the cases from silverstone. The raven seems nice, just not sure what problems the 90 degrees tilt may cause when installing various hardware. the tj09 seems like a good case but it costs 180 pounds and i will have to buy additional fans for it! I might then just as well buy the coolermaster atcs 840

It's supposed to be a terrible case though. I liked the look of it and the concept, but when i read a couple of review they didn't have anything good to say about it.

Aye could be, though I've read a few good ones on it - Phoronix gave it 8 out 10 in their review -I liked some of the concepts too...

Most guys that know whats going on would recommend the lian li it seems! All the models i mentioned on top are almost exactly the same.
They are not the most exciting of cases though, not that it really matters

Re: Full Tower case Selection 150 pounds

HAF 932 + buying some filters might be a good solution. The reviews remain pretty awesome and I'm guessing you could learn to like the look for the exchange of good airflow. Another option might be to worry less about the airflow and spend the leftovers on CoolIT Domino or similar cpu cooling system?

Not sure than the HDD cooling in the Cosmos is risky even if it is less good than competitors...

Re: Full Tower case Selection 150 pounds

Just finished a build with the HAF and must say its a cracking case to work on, 4 fans all molex connections, the tool less design is actually quite nice and works well. I actually quite like the look of the case, but damm its big.

Finished the build and expected some massive whoosh of sound and air infact its near silent, when coupled with a corsair PSU the loudest thing in the case is the CPU fan and even then its bearly noticable, X4 940 runs at 33c idle and 55c under intelburn stress test, roughly 49c under real world load with stock heatsink and 1 day curing time. GFX card 4890 has never moved off 51c at idle, even under full load the fan runs at 25% and 51c. HD is at 29c on idle.

Yer it anit got any dust filters, but you have to take them out and clean them anyway so don't see the big issue myself.

The case also comes with wheels if needed, and the back has cutouts for the tiewraps to secure the cables.

So yer +1 for the HAF.

The Lian Li cases all have differences. Some have hot swappable hard drive connections for instance.

If you fancy modding and water cooling go with the Lian Li Pc-A70, even without modding its a awesome case.

I see you've rules out Thermaltake take based on quality, yet like antec.. I would say if you are willing to consider Antec then you should consider Thermaltake as they are in the same area of quality.

Re: Full Tower case Selection 150 pounds

regarding the hard drive cooling thing, have you read about google's findings after studying thousands of hard drives?

    endgadget
    bbc

basically, they found that warm temperatures have little or no relation to failure rates.
In fact, cooler drives can fail more often then warm drives. Only hot drives change that statistic.

Only mention it as you stated poor hard drive cooling put you off one of the cases, but it might not be as big an issue as thought.

nothing wrong with the cosmos 1000 HDD cooling so long as you buy an extra fan bracket to stick on top of the cage. i have 5 hdd#s in there and the hottest i have seen is 40 degrees, the raptors sit between 30-35
