Antec 900 Reverse Mounted Hard Drives :S

Wondering if anyone knows of any 90degree, small connector (depth wise) SATA cables so that I will be able to complete the reverse mounting of my Hard Drives in my Antec 900 build (seen here), without redrilling?

Am happy for other Mod ideas to do this.. just dont want to have to go purchase a drill for this single mod, which I am very keen on doing for the cleanliness.

    Ker plez help! K thx.

Not tried reverse-mounting before, but bought some of these for a system I built recently as they were the cheapest ebuyer had in at the time. They're definately 90-degree angled and cable comes out downwards so no bending or anything silly like that so should do the trick for you. Quickfind code is 125647 (ebuyer.com/product/125647)

Re: Antec 900 Reverse Mounted Hard Drives :S

Any chance you could whip out a ruler and measure how deep they are from the hard drive once plugged in?

    Would highly appreciate it.

Re: Antec 900 Reverse Mounted Hard Drives :S

By eye (connected to mobo, and dont wanna touch while on ) I would say 3-5mm. This looks an interesting Idea. How will you get the power, as when bent imediatly mine still goes about 15mm out, wont this hit the fans???

Hope it works (and if it does, I will have to give it a go)

Re: Antec 900 Reverse Mounted Hard Drives :S

Heh, I've remounted the hard drives. They are now even further out of the cage (I only have two, so its not too much of a problem). They are only mounted on one screw each side though and wobble slightly.. not too much of a problem as I don't play frisbee with this pc..

Ordering some Akasa Right Angled Connectors, but there is plenty of room to fit normal cables in there anyway.

Am now looking at a third hard drive, 10,000rpm or SSD and am considering a 5.25" to 3.5" hard drive mount, something like this or this. Though I'm worried about them getting too hot, as I'd install my 3rd drive at the top of the Antec 900 above the middle hard drive cage in a 5.25" slot. Would the Hard Drive be fine without its own front intake fan? or should I just mount it at the bottom in one of the cages? Bearing in mind this will be used as the OS drive.

    Thanks for all your help.

    Aden

well i have my 3 drives all at the bottom of my case without space between and i have a Sharkoon "golf ball" 1000 blowing air over the 3 of them and they're cold to the touch, so i don't think that HD heat is really too much of a problem.

So you think it'll be fine to mount it up top without any additional cooling? That is if I purchase an additional harddrive. . . am toying with the idea of a DIY SSD..

yeah, i'm pretty sure you'll be fine to mount it up there.. is it the 10000rpm hd that you're gonna put there? cos i'm sure that might run a little hotter but it'll be fine

it literally just came to me that i had done some research into this before..
there really is a niche for very low profile SATA cables though.
