    RAM question

    I'm completely baffled by MSI's RAM timing settings in the BIOS.

    I have 4x1GB Ballistix PC2-8500 (DDR2 1066) RAM and I've been advised by crucial to use the following timings:

    2.2V
    5-5-5-15 (CL-RCD-RP-RAS)
    tRC 29T
    CR 2T
    tWR 8T

    What my BIOS actually says is (I can figure out the base timings no problem):
    TRFC
    TWR
    TWTR
    TRRD
    TRTP

    I can see the TWR correlation, but the rest of the terminology makes no sense at all to me and there seem to be 2 extra ones! Any help, please?

    Re: RAM question

    You could just leave them on auto and see what happens it should read the timeing settings off the ram.
    Once in widows use cpuZ http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php to check what timeing it actually running at.

    The first numbers should relate to these: (From my MSI P35 Neo2-FR)
    CL = DRAM CAS Latency
    RCD = RAS to CAS Delay
    RP = RAS Percharge
    RAS = RAS Activate to Prechar

    I Think
    tRC = TRFC
    All the other should be the same as TWR

    No idea what that CR is try contacting Crutial and asking what the acronyms are short for.
    It does say in the MSI manual what each of there acronyms stand for and a brif description of what it does.

    EDIT: I just checked cpuZ on my pc, CR is listed as Command Rate

    Re: RAM question

    Cheers! CPUz gives:
    5
    7
    7
    24
    blank
    2T
    blank
    blank
    blank

    I'll try the timings are per your suggestion and report back

    edit: which one of those five is CR then? :/

    Re: RAM question

    CR is Command Rate it will auto to 2T so don't worry about it the only other alternative is 1T but most DDR2 can not handle that especially at higher speeds.

    You can use Memset to check what your current timings are and correlate them to the BIOS values http://www.tweakers.fr/memset.html it will allow you to change the timings in windows as well if you want to try different settings without constant reboots

    Read it, it says what each are by them on cpuz
    eg: http://www.geocities.com/veera420/cpuz.JPG

    Mainly going by what Crusial state the timeing to be it should be
    5
    5
    5
    15
