Hiper Osiris - good for a quiet pc?

I am looking to get a new case to replace an old MESH midi-tower that I have been using since I rebuilt my system last summer. I have gone to some effort to make the system quiet replacing all the fans and CPU heatsink and am pretty pleased with the result, however, I figure that I could reduce the noise further by replacing the case.

Whilst I was initially drawn to the Antec P182, I have been put off by build quality concerns and some other niggles (no motherboard connectors for the case fans etc). It was then that I saw very positive reviews for the Osiris case by Hiper. My only concern is that of noise - one review described it as a wind tunnel if I remember correctly!

Can anyone tell me if this is just because of the way the fans were operated by the reviewer (i.e. on 100%) or whether the case itself does not provide much noise damping? Thanks!

(one other thing re the Osiris - why provide unnecessary extras such as a 'unique' keyring? Surely something like a dust filter on the front intake fan would be more usefull...)

You have posted this b4; therefore you get the same(ish) answer:
The word Hiper makes me think sharp, spikey and cutty. But I dunno, never seen the case b4.

From the looks of things me thinks that it will be all rattely, cos the HDD setup. See:

No paddy shock thingys for the PSU to sit on reducing vibrations, same HDD cage thing as the Antec, but without the anti vibrational screws, and the fans seem to be without any anti vibrational fittings. From what i can see tho.

    Antec P182 - good case

Re: Hiper Osiris - good for a quiet pc?

Sorry Will404 - I should have seen Subucni's post, however, I think my question is still a valid one. Whilst I take on board your points, from the reviews I have looked at elsewhere I got the impression that the noise mainly emanated from the loud fans that came installed with the case - something that could be easily remedied.

I would like to know from anyone that owns the case if this is indeed the problem or if the construction of and materials used are the issue?

    Thanks again

Sorry, I thought it was the same person posting twice, who never replied to my reply.

Anyway, it is easy to fit new fans, and these can be had cheeply - £4-£15 ish.
    so not a problem

Re: Hiper Osiris - good for a quiet pc?

    No worries!

I think I will give this case a go - most reviews I have looked at are favourable and I will see if lowering the fan speeds using SpeedFan will make the noise from them acceptable (and if not I will swap them for the Nexus ones I have...)

However, any advice from people that own the case is still welcome!

Correct here, however as with many cases the PSU does not rest on anything, All the weight is on the back panel.

same HDD cage thing as the Antec, but without the anti vibrational screws
Umm it's very unlike the Antec cage, it's narrower, has a 120mm mounted on the front and uses rubber strips to help hold the drives tightly and reduce vibration, the cage is also held in with rubber strips to reduce vibration.

and the fans seem to be without any anti vibrational fittings. From what i can see tho.

    Antec P182 - good case
Yes just like all the anti-vibrational fan fittings in the p182 then

A couple of things the hiper has over the p182, All Aluminium construction, Side window/mesh combo, easy open catches on the side panels, cost. (it's cheaper than the p182)

Now while side windows are a personal choise hipers choise of combineing mesh and window is very good, gives you a side window but tones it down a little and doesn't act as a giant RFI hole in your case.
    Also no door vs door.

Not that I think the p182 is bad, far from it, but it is more focused on silence, the Osiris is less about silence more about cooling.

Compairing this to the Antec 900 which is more focused on cooling than silence would be better and a tougher call.

Re: Hiper Osiris - good for a quiet pc?

    Thanks for your thoughts Pob255.

I agree that for for quiet computing the P182 would be more suitable but then again it is also ~50% more than the Osiris at the moment. Given my thrifty nature and my preference for understated design (900 is not my cup of tea) I think Osiris it is!
