    Modding creative speakers

Has anyone modded any of creatives line of speakers?? Im gonna try as I dont have the money to upgrade them.

    I have the inspire t5900 5.1 system

    http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/mul...e-t5900_2.html

These are the ones im going to try to mod (and the centre)

by changing the internal wire to better quality cable and silver solder while also changing the cable to the sub to qed micro speaker cable and decent phono plugs. ALso change the 3.5-3.5 mm jack cables with better quality ones and maybe change the standard plug with a silver plated one (mines a euro with converter).

I have carefully removed the main speaker but cant see any easy way of opening it but cant see anything else. Any one opened them and can give me any hints/help to open the casings without breaking them??

    Re: Modding creative speakers

I used to have a set of those, but got fed up of crashing into the back speakers and chucked them out in favour of a pair of T40's. The only thing I would say is that having rammed into those things several times, they seemed pretty tough - they stayed completely intact and destroyed the plaster instead

    Good luck with modding them.

    Re: Modding creative speakers

I don't know how to open them, however off hand thoes 4 hole in the front should have screws in there which would hold the case together.
The cones(?) themselves are probably attached to the front, should be able to rewire them insitue.

Another common trick is to cover screw holes with product stickers on the back.
Go over the stickers on them with the back end of a biro or simular (something hard prefreably with a rounded end, not sharp) to see if there are any hidden depressions or holes under them.

You may want to look into adding "Ferrites" to reduce RFI as well, speaker cables can be a real target for RFI.
Years ago I had my pc hooked up to a cheap stereo and I get bleeps from it every time a bus, fire engine or ambulance went by (but strangely enough not police cars)

I can't imagine that upgrading the cable will have noticeable effect. Upgrading the drivers might.

You have to think that speakers like this are built to a cost and like with hifi you get supplied cables that make your system work. With analogue cables better quality/materials/shielded cable can improve the sounds as they resist RFI etc. I have been a home cinema nut for years and have modded full size speakers and played with a few different brands/quality speaker cables and they do sound different to each other.

I agree with new drivers and a proper band-pass filter board would make the biggest difference but for the cost I might as well just buy a whole new and better system.
