    Recommend me a case

I've been racking my brains as to what case to get... I can't find a suitable one anywhere !!!

It's going to be used as a file server so needs to be a decent sized tower case as it will house the following:
    Dual PIII M/B
    1x20GB HDD
    2x80GB HDD
    Graphics Card
    SCSI Card
    DVD Recorder
and possibly add another 2 CD-Rom Drives later.

As it's going to be on 24-7 it needs to be quiet so ideally i'm thinking 120mm fans rather than 80mm ones. I like the look of the new Chieftec BX02 series in Black/Grey but they only have 80mm fan sockets, who does cases with 120mm fan mounts?

Oh a window panel would be good too

You could try the Lian Li PC71 for that, I think they have 120mm fans above the PSU!

I have a ThermalTake on the same chassis and it gets crowded with just my PC. The almost exact same looking Chieftec might be good though.

Was looking round last night and the cases I think are in the shortlist are:
Chieftec BX02 - still - but no one seems to do the windowed side panel for it !!
and the Antec P160 with 120mm fans front and rear with the window panel although considerably more expensive than the Chieftec...

so the question I suppose is... anyone know, are the Chieftec and Antec cases quiet ?

As a reference: I have a Thermaltake Xaser III running at the moment, with it's stupendous 7 case fans, but with all the fans on minimum speed setting it's more than acceptable volume wise, with them all on full it's too loud.

M8 TT made a bit of a f*** up, take out that blue panel thing and your tempertures'll drop

I don't think cases make any noise , I've noticed my door has started to rattle a little when its closed although its not any biggy (and the case is like 1.5yrs old and has been lugged around all over the place). As the Chieftec and Antecs are practially identicle I'd just go for the cheaper!

I got a blue chieftec lying around here somewhere with a window on it, never was that quiet a case, but as it turns out it was me being thick, the case was quiet, cos it just made as much noise in a coolermaster lol

hmm must try and find that case....

Antec seem to love the idea of 120mm fan holes these days.
Have you looked at the Antec Super Lanboy? It's got some funky LED fans in it as well as a case window which is quite nice - Cheaper than the 160.

Lian PC-65 would be big enough for what you need.

Thanks everyone for the great advice, I decided in the end on the Antec P160 because of the design of the side window, and the twin temp probes. Also went for two 120mm Stealth fans with dampening kits and the vantec fan/light controller as it can turn the fans down to 0 rpm if needed

It's a very nice case, will stick some pics up when it's done if anyone wants to see it.

    Barakka

PS - was thinking of (eventually) putting the two temp probes on the two cpu's what do you use to stick them to the underside of the chip ? Is it the same stuff you use for sticking heatsinks on with as I might have a bit of that spare.

i have an antec sonata, and they RULE, solidly built, well designed, quite, stylish and black

    - only thing is, before you get carryed away, check it the front panel (with usb etc on it) is loose, cos mione can loose after week, and i have to take the main bezal off to reglue it (clip are the other sie of the 5.5' racks)

but apart form that its a really ACE case, the 120mm fan is all you need for a case fan as well (i bought a front fan, which you dont need)

You really should give the Antec Performance Plus 1080AMG a good long look... I'm using three of them with 2 dual Xeons and 1 dual AthlonXP - and they're on 24/7/365. Check them out...

I'm also using an Antec Sonata which is ok for what it is... Cooling is not as good as the 1080AMG.

I got the Antec P160, setting it up at the moment, the problem i'm having with noise is the 60mm fans on the P3 chips... I needed new HSF sets so with the limited choice now available went for Thermo Engine designs:

but the fans are far too loud... can hardly hear the 120mm Vantec Stealth fans

As they can cool AMD 1.4 GHz chips I don't think they will be overworked on P3 800 MHz chips so i'm trying different ideas at the moment; SpeedFan is one option, but having problems getting it to work with my mobo, connecting to my fan controller is another option, but as it can go down to 0 rpm could be a bit risky if I caught it Or the other option I thought of was to take the fans off, leaving the nice big heatsinks in place, then get one of the Zalman fan brackets and put a 92/120mm Stealth fan on it blowing on the heatsinks, will need to watch the temps though
