Case and PSU enquiry
Hi folks,
A friend of mine is going to build a new machine, he'd like to use the following
Case: Coolermaster CM-690 Dominator
PSU: 650W Antec EarthWatts
He's a bit worried as the psu mounts at the bottom of the case, and would like to know if the cables on the Antec would be long enough for the job.
I've told him the ones on my OCZ PSU in the P182 are fine, and that the Antec ones should be too with it being a good psu.
Can anyone just clarify that he'll be ok? (he's stuck at work at the moment)
Thanks in advance :)
Jo.

Re: Case and PSU enquiry
I would say yes it will be fine.
All modern 'decent' PSUs now have good cable lengths as it is now very popular to have bottom mounted PSUs.

Re: Case and PSU enquiry
As Blitzen said you should have no problems.
The only problem I have seen is the P4 connection that can be solved with one of these

Re: Case and PSU enquiry
Should be ok as that one of the newer earthwatt psu's the older ones had shorter leads but the newer ones should be fine :)
I would say that depending on the cost and what is going into this build that it may be worth considering a modular psu.

Re: Case and PSU enquiry
Thanks for the replies :D
I've passed the info on.
I've read a few things about modular PSU's, and I can see the huge benefit they would have over a standard PSU, with the reduction in unwanted cables. Are there any disadvantages to them? As I'm thinking of building another system and was considering a modular.
Thanks again.. all this new technology frazzles my brain.
(it was easier in the 486 building days)

Re: Case and PSU enquiry
Modular is a great innovation when it comes to PSU's. You don't have bundles of unused wires blocking airflow etc. You can use only the cables you 'want' to use. There are some great models out there to choose from too. Can't see any disadvantages myself.

Re: Case and PSU enquiry
Main disadvantage of a modular psu is the extra cost.
Also depending on setup and modular leads you can some times end up using all the leads anyway.
