My new case comes with an undoubtedly very cheap 400w power supply. It has a few molex connectors, about enough for my two hard disks, 2 cd/dvd drives and a floppy drive. However, I will have five or six fans to connect up too, all wanting molex connectors. Do I need a better power supply with more connections, or molex splitter cables, or is there something I'm missing here?
Best advice is "suck it and see"
Get splitters to power your fans etc., and if everything works and is stable fully loaded, then don't worry about a new power supply.
I had a generic 300w P/S running a P4 2.8 Ghz. CPU overclocked to 3.15, 2X120mm fans, 2X80mm fans, 2X40mm fans (1 on northbridge, 1 in removable hard disk caddy), 5 hard disks, 1 floppy, 1 DVD, 1 CD RW, 1 DVD RW without any problem. I've since upgraded from the generic 300w to an Antic 430w, but I've not noticed any improvement in stability.

You need a new psu my friend- Any cheap generic pre fitted psu's are not reccoemnded for any period of time. Seeying as though you have quite a lot fitted in there you should be looking to upgrade.
There are some decent psu's available at www.scan.co.uk.
A reasonable PSU is on my list of things to buy eventually anyway. If I can't run all my fans, I'll disconnect one or two, I'm not overclocking anyway, at least not straight away.Originally Posted by steve threlfall
