    PSU Question

Can I pick somebody's brains please, *A single Dual or Quad CORE CPU is still 1 physical CPU correct? Therefore 400W would be enought for this system. If I intended to overclock whcih I have calculated as 2833 would be 416W and 3000 would be 449W but this is still well below 500 which means the budget is ok.

    System Type: 1 physical CPU*
    Motherboard: High End - Desktop
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450 2667 MHz Yorkfield
    CPU Utilization (TDP): 85% TDP

    RAM: 4 Sticks DDR2 SDRAM
Video Card 1: ATI Radeon HD 4870

    Regular SATA: 1 HDD
    Green SATA: 2 HDDs

    DVD-RW/DVD+RW Drive: 1 Drive

    USB: 3 Devices

    Fans
    Regular: 1 Fan 140mm; 1 Fan 250mm;
    LED: 1 Fan 140mm; 1 Fan 250mm;

    Keyboard and mouse: Yes
    System Load: 90 %

    Recommended Wattage: 349 Watts

    Recommended Amperage:
    +3.3V +5V +12V
    6.1 A 11.8 A 22.5 A

    Recommended UPS rating: 600 VA

    Re: PSU Question

Look at a good quality 450-500w psu

    here are some examples

Corsair VX450w, although it only has one pci-e connector
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/450W-...PLUS-certified
So the VX550w may be better
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/550w-...anty-see-specs

    corsair HX520w for modular
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/520W-...-year-warranty

Enermax Pro82+ 525w (the 425w should be fine but I'd err on the side of caution)
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/525W-...uard-SafeGuard
    Enermax Modu82+ 525w for modular
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/525W-...uard-SafeGuard

Be quiet Dark power 450v for modular
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/450W-...lar-PSU-87-Eff

Basically you're looking at £50-65 for non-modular and £65-75 for modular

    Other makes to look at
    OCZ
    Silverstone
    Seasonic
    Silverpower
    FSP

As long as you don't drop much below £50 for a 450w you should be fine, just don't think that a £20 500w psu or a 950w psu that costs £50, will be any good.

The ENERMAX will be the one for me good wattage and of course the reliability of ENERMAX as well including the price is well matched. 525W for an energy efficiant PSU is a good price. I was looking at this one last night on ENERMAX website and was wondering the price. Thank you all for your support, this is a PC I'm building for my brother, he's having most of what ad in my old machine which is only 7 months old. I have been using ENERMAX for years and I have never had a problem with them at all good warranty and sollid build. I have the 850W Revolution, PSU and it rocks.

Good choice.....it's a cracking PSU and the best in that list by quite a margin.

    Re: PSU Question

I have been looking at similar PSU's myself and am leaning toward the same Enermax supplies listed. From everything I've read they do seem a good choice.

    Yep
I have a Corsair HX520 in my other system.
Also have had 2 x Fortrons
These were all ok but i found the Enermax's to be superior.

I've had a Thermaltake PSU and never again it put me off for life. 7 months in and it started ticking which of course is never a good sign. Well it took me two months of bickering and arguing with the suppliers, (which was not Scan) which they eventually gave in and gave me my money back for which I was amazed. I bought the Enermax Revolution 850W with the refund. I've owned a few Enermax PSU over the last 10 years of building rigs.

    Re: PSU Question

Just thought I'd chip in and give the OCZ X-Stream 500W modular a shout At £50 is v.good value and v.reliable according to the reviews I've read. Plus it's modular, I suppose the rest are but I bet they're not this cheap!

    I bought a Silverpower SP-SS 500W a while back and I wish I'd waited now My 5v rail sucks
