    What to do with my Antec 900?

    Basically what I am stuck with at the moment is this:

    And that's after a few hours of cable management!

    The main problem is quite obviously the power supply, its a Tagan 2-Force II 900W beast, massively overkill for what I have, but there was the intention of crossfire at some point during the last 2 years! It has a massive amount of cables (there are another 2 molex branches and a dual 6 pin PCI-E (+2 pin expansion) hidden behind the motherboard tray) and the 5 (or 6?) rail system means I can't have all my hard-drives on one lead.

    Trying to organise this has been a nightmare, but other than that it is a decent power supply and cost a reasonable amount back then.

    I have recently received: 4 x Artic Cooling F12 fans, anti-vibration kit, Acousticpack Ultimate sound absorption kit, Antec Veris Multimedia station Elite and a Scythe Kazemaster fan controller.

    I have a couple of options but I'd like to know what you think of them all:

    1) Spray paint over the Antec 900 side panel window, install sound proofing foam and buy a new power supply;

    2) Buy a new larger case, keep power supply and install sound proofing foam in that;

    3) Stick with the jumble of wires and attempt to install sound proofing kit in that.

    Or any other ideas you might have? Any help would be appreciated as I am in a bit of a pickle!

    Re: What to do with my Antec 900?

    A modular power supply might be a good idea if you can sell your Tagan power supply for a decent price to cover the cost of the new power supply I guess.

    It also depends on what you want, do you wanna keep your Antec 900 or do you wanna spend more money on getting a different case?

    I think number 3 will be quite hard so it's in order of what you prefer really I'd say.

    Re: What to do with my Antec 900?

    For the cable management, my advice (around my 900 which you could consider tidy ), would be to move the bottom 2 HDD's up one, and try and shove as many cables in the gap under them. Tie all your cables together continuing the strainght pattern out of the PSU, in one bunch up attaching them to the bottom far HDD mounting screw holes. Then coil any un-neccacary cable under there, tieing it down as you go. As for the cables from the GPU, I would be trying to turn them right as they come away from the GPU, and running them straight down the close side of HDD tray. Then they will be hidden.

    Then have another look, it may help, it may not, you can only hope for the best

    Re: What to do with my Antec 900?

    Ewww I hate dust in PCs...

    Anyway lol, I would consider one of two options:

    Sell your PSU and buy a lower-rated, modular one - As suggested by Ulti.

    Or buy a new case - Depends on if you have the funds or not though.

    If I had the funds I would lean towards getting a new case because I like having a bit more space to play with in my PC but that is up to how you feel of course.

    I don't know if spray painting the window is going to come out well, I'd get a new bigger case tbh.

    Re: What to do with my Antec 900?

    Apparently you can buy a side on it's own without a window, I considered it when I received my 900, but as its under the desk it doesn't bother me too much.

    Definitely get a modular PSU, the 900 is impressive for a 'gaming' tower, but struggles with lots of stuff in there.

    Did you find it a pain getting your graphics card in there? I dread having to upgrade mine, there is literally no clearance between it and the HDDs.

    Re: What to do with my Antec 900?

    Thanks for the replies

    In the end I bought a new power supply, one of those Coolermaster Silent M Pro 600w jobs. A lot easier to handle inside the 900 but still requires some work, most likely drilling a couple of holes to route the cables up behind the motherboard (the case has 2 pre drilled but it still messy when you use them).

    I ended up spraying the window black (on the inside), removing the mesh and it turned out quite well, not perfect but still looks nice with the white 120mm fan in the side. I'll take some pictures shortly, need to get some batteries for my camera.

    Unfortunately it's booting into a BSOD everytime now so something must have died when it was all removed. I bought a new CPU cooler which installed fine but removing the old one was a bit bothersome as the cpu was stuck to it like glue and required a fair bit of force to remove it. I'm just in the process of swapping out different parts to see if I can get the thing in to windows.
