Ok 1st off I have to admit, I did not make these, they are the work of John Osborne.
I did my best with the photos, don't have an SLR or anything very fancy, the lighting wasn't great and my hands where a little shakey from too much caffine.
Basically I was at a Steampunk thing yesterday, manning a stall, helping my otherhalf sell her stuff and John was on the table next to us.
So I had a chat with him about these and how he made them.
He gets some USB memory sticks, I forgot to ask which make, opens them up to get the innards out.
The wood, which is oak, were scraps from a joiner friend of his, the middle section is carefully cutout to follow the exact shape of the pcb of the memorystick inside, so they are held in very tightly.
He is hopeing to get some mahogany for the next set.
I cannot remember where he gets the dials from, however they are positioned over the LED on the USB stick, so the paper face of the dial will light up when they are accessed.
All the rest of the detailing are hand made out of brass & copper rods and sheets. All the little taps and wheels vlalues are free moving, there was even free moving pistons on a couple.
They are just so nice I had to share them
I hope no one objects or I'm breaking the rules if I include his web site address, as he does sell them.
