    Recommendations for multi-tool?

I'm planning a couple of modding projects this summer, and so I'm going to use some of my birthday haul to get a multi-tool for all the cutting and shaping I'll be doing. My budget will be £30 - this is for the tool + whatever accessories I can get bundled in with one: I'll be able to get more accessories should I need them while I'm doing the mods in the summer so the size of bundle isn't that important.

So, any recommendations? Is it worth spending extra for something like a proper Dremel, or would a generic tool do the job? There's a Clas Ohlson in central Manchester that does "Cotech" hardware and tools: I was considering something like this variable speed tool, but I'm always a little hesitant about buying cheaper power tools (that said, I have the Cotech mini-sander from Clas Ohlson which has done sterling service so far...). Any thoughts?

    Re: Recommendations for multi-tool?

Well my cheap one came from woolworths when it still existed.

Unfortunately not so easy to find in the UK, found one on the Argos website of all places, but it's £50

In terms of bits good reinforced cutting disks and a sander drum are the two bits I almost only ever use.
Fleabay is a good source for these. eg http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/REINFORCED-CUT...item4839da7428
not cheap compaired to the basic 20mm cutting discs, however they are much stronger and don't shatter as eaisly and cut far better.

PS remember to get some safty glasses aswell, these are an absolute must with a rotary tool

    EDIT:
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/6pce-X-Large-R...item20b071a24e looks good

edit2: having a look that Cotech one looks decent, not seen one with digital speed control before, the carry case and flexable shaft are very handy additions, although you'll still want to get some decent cutting discs to go with it

    Re: Recommendations for multi-tool?

Cheers I assume the disk cutters are only really any use for cutting predominantly straight lines? I'm considering cutting some fretwork designs into the case at one point, but it looks like you can get some interesting tungsten carbide cuttings bits (again, not cheap...) which I assume would do that job nicely.

I reckon I'll go for the cotech in that case, and I can buy decent cutting disks and bits in the summer when I'm doing the more complex work - my first couple of jobs are going to be some simple small scale grinding just to get used to the tool...
