    Cable sleeving shops?

Well I've liked the look of sleeving and it's relatively inexpensive so I've decided I want to sleeve a bit of the things in my pc. Obviously I won't be doing single sleeving straight off though.

But what I've wanted to know is other than Chilled Pc and mdpc x, are there any other places that I can get sleeving to compare the prices/quality. I've got a very small budget due to being a student (well it's more like I don't want to spend too much)

Also, I've sleeved a few fan cables and such and with the heatshrink I used the barrel part of the soldering iron and a hairdryer before to shrink it. With the soldering iron it worked pretty well as things wouldn't be blown anywhere like with the hairdryer, however I just learn a simple trick which is to use a clip of some sort to hold the heatshrink in place. Now I was wondering if a heatgun is worth the cost or will the hairdryer + clip trick work well enough?

I've currently got an order off mdpc x in the basket and I've heard nothing but good things about them but the order is already like 30 euros for 2 lots of sleeving + 1 lot of heatshrink.. Not the cheapest but it is 10m sleeving and there quality does seem pretty good. I've chosen the small sleeving, will this be the one for the fans and single sleeving as shown in the picture? I've also got an order of 2.5mm sleeving from chilled pc, is this gonna be suitable for the front panel wires (i.e. hdd led, pwr switch, reset etc)

    Thanks!

    Re: Cable sleeving shops?

I'd go with chilled pc stuff tbh, alot cheaper and it's still good quality. MDPC-X just isn't worth it tbh, especially if nobody will see the wires anyway.

    It's 4.98*

    Re: Cable sleeving shops?

Only problem is I chilled pc only do 2:1 heatshrink for colours other than black, I don't think 2:1 heatshrink is the best to use is it?

EDIT: And well my pc is on the right of me with a side window so it's quite "on show".

    Re: Cable sleeving shops?

    Sorry, forgot to answer those.

I've got some white 2:1 stuff and it's fine for use with the 3mm braid. Could send you it to try it out? Got some white/blue 3mm stuff too, you could check out the density and stuff before buying.

    Anyway, your questions;

Not really anywhere else to get good quality stuff, wcuk/kustom pc are crap quality.

I've always used a hairdryer myself, been fine, use a lighter for any stubborn pieces, couldn't justify a heatgun myself.

The 2.5/3mm is fine for fans and individual cables, shouldn't have any problems.

    Re: Cable sleeving shops?

Well I'll just get a bit of every heatshrink and see what will work best for me as I can't justify spending near £20 on cable sleeving right now from mdpc x when I could put that towards something else and when I've already got a £15 order on the way from Chilled pc but like I said, left some stuff out unfortunately and I'm guessing it's more hassel to pay the extra so I'll place a new order.

    Thanks!

EDIT: Seems I'm not so lucky and almost everything I want at chilled pc is out of stock Mdpc x it is then. Order put through with mdpc x!

Working out the rates it doesn't seem too bad anyway, 0.795 euros per 1m of cable sleeving and the black fan headers I wanted are 0.42 euros each. It's only the delivery that pushes it up a bit.

    Re: Cable sleeving shops?

I get mine from RS Components http://rswww.com and do a search on braided sleeving. (Not the easiest site to navigate round) Here are some part numbers and descriptions of stuff I have bought - just enter the part no in the search box.

    562-684 Dual wall, heatshrink W3NH Black 6/2 Bag of 1 £4.45
    187-4622 Cable Sleeving Polyester Braid 5mm 1 Reel of 5 Metre(s) £4.93
    562-668 Dual wall, heatshrink W3NH Black 12/4 1 Bag of 1 £6.45
    187-4600 Cable Sleeving Polyester Braid 3mm Reel of 5 Metre(s) £3.53

Prices exclude VAT. The "bag of one" is (IIRC) a 1 metre length so it lasts for ages.

    Re: Cable sleeving shops?

Sorry to dig up an old-ish thread but im wanting to possibly cable brain the annoying wires in my PC. I am thinking black and white to go with the black and white already in there fans are white case is black.

I was just wondering what I need cable braid wise?

I know I need braid, but what would be the best stuff to use?

Currently looking on ChilledPC so anything from there would be ideal.

    Cheers.

    Re: Cable sleeving shops?

Depends what you are braiding to be honest. All you really need to know about are sizes really, colour choice is up to you and you'll just need heatshrink and braiding.

Sorry I missed the original thread, I'd just like to add here that cpc also sell sleeving and heatshrink but again it's a bit of a bugger for find things on that site.

    Re: Cable sleeving shops?

I have purchase braid from lots of different manufactures & suppliers. The best for coverage is sold by ChilledPc. They can also do specialist orders for individual colours.
