Re: AMD 965 build help
I've recently built a very similar system:
Phenom II X4 955BE
2x2GB Crucial Ballistix DDR3
ASUS 890GTD USB 3.0 SATA 3.0 Mobo
Cooler master silent pro M600 600W PSU
Lian Li PC-7 Case
All in all I'm pretty happy with it. The ASUS has quite good fan control built into the BIOS (if you can get it working properly) so although I was planning on getting a new cooler, that's been put on the back burner as I can barely heard the one I have!
Like you I bought an 890gx board so it can handle 3D but can also upgrade to a decent gfx card when the funds allow it!
The ATI HD4290 onboard graphics is fine for all the HD video and full screen flash you can throw at it and it gets 4.6 in Windows 7 Experience for Gaming Graphics if you were wondering (easily the lowest score on my system though)
Let me know what the cooler you decide on is like!

Re: AMD 965 build help
Just to add that I think the system is going to provide a good platform to upgrade from.
The next generation AMD processors will still be socket AM3 so this upgrade will be easy. Plus you can easily wait for a while to buy decent gfx card and it has onboard gfx. I went for the ASUS board with USB 3.0 and SATA 3.0 so that it would be compatible with future external peripherals and latest SSD drives at their max speed.
I think I've made the right choice!

Re: AMD 965 build help
defo gonna be tuniq tower 120 extreme, only 1.1C difference than the noctua, but looks nice and more practical size.not purchased yet, still gathering components, but when its done i'll post picks and show temps from the cooler.

Re: AMD 965 build help
i can't remember why but i was strongly put off the tuniq after something. maybe it was simply the fact that it comes with a blue LED fan, i can't remember.
ended up going for the xigmatek dark knight which has really done me well :) (Phenom II 965 idling at 36C when room temp is 27C) haven't overclocked yet though, waiting to get bored of the speed it's giving me :P
