    Looks like a slide ?
Did you sand it first to give the paint a key.
    Society's to blame,
    Or possibly Atari.

its the front of my pc case, it was sanded to its bare plastics, primed and in between each coat i used wet and dry sand paper. it had this process all the way to the finsh...ive got to admit it was done in pretty warm weather mind! but still...to take this long to suddenly come along? what gives oh and the final coat had a good buff aswell

Could be humidity when you were spraying.Idealy you want a day that the air is clear and dry, have you tried laquering as soon as paint has dried,or even just before its set totally?
Also lots of spraypaints react with certain plastics, especially acrylic.try checking with paint manafacturer.

A warm dry day is better to spray in than a really hot one, heat brings humidity, spray painters worst enemy.

Looks like the primer has ether expanded or shrunk, not sure which, probably shrunk and cracked.

What paints did you use? how long did you leave it between layers?

halfords primer, its a new one i thought i would try out... wish i didnt now why would it shrink and crack? with the primer coats i was waiting about an hour in between coats, paint had 1 layer roughly every 2 hours then left for a day and carried on and same with the clear coat

Re: what cause's paint to do this?!?!

    Prime with Plasti-Kote Plastic Primer.

I sprayed a plastic scooter over the summer, leaving each coat (I did two of primer) to dry for a few hours in the sun and my lad has smashed the crap out of the scooter since and it's still holding up.

Two coats of primer, three of paint, two of clear.

Can you not just gently sand those paint rucks (or whatever you call them) away?

They look like contraction marks, what paint went on top of the primer? They are probably caused by the paint primer and case all contracting and expanding at different rates. Auto manufacturers spend millions on paint formulations to allow uniformity across different materials.

Re: what cause's paint to do this?!?!

well, first coat was a car primer (so probs caters toward metal but it did this on the metal aswell)

    colour coat is halfords

    clear coat is halfords,

then i used a buffing material which i noticed made the paint feel very soft, it stayed soft for well over a week so im going to put it down to the new primer and rubbing compound, im going to go back to what i know and hope it works lol

btw no im pretty sure i cant just sand them out

Re: what cause's paint to do this?!?!

Ahhh sounds like you used buffing compound too soon or the wrong type (had some solvent in it that reacted with the clear coat)
Before buffing clear coat it should be left for at least a week to fully cure, esp if you're using any form of wax or compound.
You can get away wihout leaveing it that long but only if you dry buff.

That's why when being correctly spray painted cars are actually "baked" between stages (ie left in a heated room) to bleed out the paint solvent, even then the paint finish is only fully hard after about a week.

Re: what cause's paint to do this?!?!

damn...i wish you came in here before i restarted it!! im now trying out that plati kote stuff, seems to be spitting everywhere! im not having any luck with this at all. Either way the new spray is a glass so should get a better shine (orginal idea) just it doesnt feel exspensive or good, oh and the buffing compound....it was a good 4 years old, think that had anything to do with it? also it was used 4 days after spraying.
