    Netgear Custom case

So....Going to be a quick with this, was advised to get a Netgear DG834GT and flash it, so I'm going to go ahead and do that but whilst i'm waiting for O2 to sort out my Broadband i might aswell build a custom case for my new Netgear hub!

This came along after noticing that it was get really hot under use for just over a few hours, a quick google showed this router tends to get hot and become unstable, not wanting that ive decided a few heatsinks and a new case are in hand

1st i need to find a case, at the moment i've a bthomehub and a spare wireless box 2 from o2 (a half dead one) i might even find anouther case somewhere around town who knows! but for now im looking for any advice anyone can give,

thanks for reading and exspect updates as soon as i finshing the planning stages XD

    ""edit""

    A few images!

The Netgear and the O2 box

Now something i need to know!! take a look at this,

Netgear routers generally get pretty damn hot, do you have the two stands to keep the unit up vertical? If not, search eBay for "Neatgear stands". I had to stand my Neatgear 834G v4, 834GT and DGN2000 routers up otherwise they'd overheat and become unstable.

Installing heat sinks aren't a bad idea, I did on my DG834G (as well as upgrade caps), newer Netgear routers (e.g. DGN2000) already have heat sinks fitted!

Various online electrical component shops sell small enclosures for electronics projects, I'm sure you'll be able to find one that fits. Rapid Online is one such shop, alternatively pop down to Maplin where enclosures are slightly more expensive, but you get a good look before buying.

You can, but it wouldn't be much of an improvement if not make things worse. What you can do is replace your current SMA antenna with a bigger one.

    Re: Netgear Custom case

Glad you came along and gave me all that information! I will go with the longer antenna then instead, I'm not to keen on the box's maplin do, although i might be able to mod one to my liking!

I've got to be honest i'm not amazing with a soldering iron! is it worth me changin the caps?

    Re: Netgear Custom case

Re-capping isn't hard but can go badly wrong if you're inexperienced. If you're confident enough to give it a shot, there are tutorials on the Internet detailing the process, e.g. badcaps.net.

Besides, if the caps aren't causing any trouble, don't bother replacing them unless you suspect they're going to fail in the near future.
