    Case recomendations please

Ok so my nasty Coolermaster case really needs replacing so need some recommendations please
Looking for something in the mid tower size range, only need space for 3 hard drives and 2 optical drives, needs to be deep enough though for a GTX 580 to fit and let say a GTX 590 / 6990 for future proofing
Not looking for something that looks like it was designed by a chav / Lambo designer after a night of booze and mind altering substances .
Black preferably with a black interior.
Done some looking around and so far the case that's caught my eye the most is the Fractal Design R3, Also looked at the Coolermaster 600D but a number of reviews highlighted the fact that the cooling performance was a little lacking.

    Thanks in advance

    Re: Case recomendations please

Ummm Coolermaster 600D ??? afaik there is no Coolermaster 600D
There's the corsair 600T and 650D which are both based on the same frame, ie they are exactly the same inside.
And the cooling on them is very good

the Fractal design R3 is decent with additional fans added, all the reviews I've read just have used the fans that come with it, namely a rear and single front fan, which are both low rpm
Add in a 2nd front fan and two top fans and the cooling is much better.

You could look at the new fractal design ARC http://www.fractal-design.com/?view=...gory=2&prod=57
similar frame, they made it wider to allow for 140mm fans, the whole top is now a mesh covered opening
Front bezel is now brushed anodised aluminium.

However both the corsair options are in the over £100 price bracket, the Arc looks like it will be just under £100 but is not out untill the end of the month
    http://www.specialtech.co.uk/spshop/...pid-13090.html

For lower cost that are currently out, there's the BitFenix Survivor http://www.scan.co.uk/products/bitfe...handle-w-o-psu
The cooler master HAF 912+ http://www.scan.co.uk/products/coole...r-case-w-o-psu (ok you may not like the look of that one)
The coolermaster 690 II basic (aka Lite) http://www.scan.co.uk/products/coole...r-case-w-o-psu
LanCool K60 http://www.scan.co.uk/products/lian-...g-case-w-o-psu (so glad they finally released the K60 over here, no need to buy additional fans and screws, and no led's or window)
Thermaltake element S http://www.scan.co.uk/products/therm...er-case-no-psu (slightly older but still decent, treads the line on looks)
NZXT tempest EVO http://www.scan.co.uk/products/nzxt-...window-w-o-psu (again you might not like the looks but it does come fully kitted with fans)
NZXT Phantom http://www.scan.co.uk/products/nzxt-...er-casew-o-psu (again treading the line on looks, some like it some don't, nice colour range though)

    Re: Case recomendations please

Well I really like the look of the Lancool K60 and don't like the monolith look of the corsair obsidian series.
I do like the old antec p180/fractal design R3 look, I don't find so monolithic looking, esp the non-all black versions.
And I wouldn't mind the monolith look if it was taken further, but that would have to be a totally featureless black obelisk

Other things you could look at are the higher end silverstone and Lian-li cases but that is going to be pushing the price up
You could also look at the Coolermaster ATCS 840

I like the Antec cases. especially the lanboy air modular
Another one I would consider is the HAFX.

I would always go Silverstone for a large case though

    Re: Case recomendations please

I got the Fractal Design R3 with a silver front.
Nice case, comes with adjustable fans for people who don't want to put their own in, and is very quiet with fans turned low-ish
Loudest thing on mine is the Samsung Spinpoints, or the processor fan when it starts working a bit. Other than that, fanless and dead quiet which was important to me.

Disk caddy is a bit flimsy, but I suspect they all are.

Nice and easy to put things in once you discover how to mount the disks (I was thinking of drilling holes before I checked on youtube ).

    Ready insulated too.
    I'd get one again.
    Can you just............................?

    Re: Case recomendations please

At the moment I'm torn between the Xigmatec Utgard and the Lancool K60 both can be had for around 65 quid. If your willing to spend twice that I think the Coolermaster 650D looks a lovely case, which I missed on ebay yesterday that went for 75 nib but obviously no easy return with that.

The Fractal Design case range is excellent - especially the Define XL, just great value and super quiet.

Coolermaster 690 II is a very good case.

If you wanted something a bit bigger the Coolermaster Storm Trooper is ace!

Failing that, can't really go wrong with the Corsair 600T.

Another + for Fractal Design Define R2/3 or XL My old R2 is great. Biggest problem for me is my quiet PSU died and new Corsair TX650 v2 isn't.

    Re: Case recomendations please

I have also been considering a new build for a while now, and one case which I think looks rather suitable is the Lian Li PC-7FNWX.

    - Classic, simplistic look.
    - Black brushed aluminium outside, anodised black inside
    - Has space for your optical drives and hdds (5x 5.25" drive bays and 4x 3.5" hdd bays, though I remember reading somewhere that the hdd bays were the wrong way round or something to that effect)

Space available for graphics cards - 1 card up to 430mm, any others up to 290mm (I do not know how many more you can fit in, but it has 8 pci expansion slots if that helps)

Looking at the cooling available does put me off a little, as it only has room for a 140mm fan in the front, 120mm in the back, and room for an extra 140mm fan in the top, which does seem a little limited compared to other cases.
Also whilst reading around some have criticised the lack of cable management options, however due to the fact that reviews for this particular case seem to be very thin on the ground, this will need to be verified by an actual owner. So from mere googling I will have to say that the Corsair cases seem to have the edge there.

Price-wise Scan have it for around the same price as the Corsair 650D, which may be a little on the more expensive side for cases, but I have heard many good things about the quality of Lian Li (not sure why they insist on using aluminium thumbscrews though), so it could be a case of "you pay for what you get".

I am relatively new to Pcs in general, so if anyone has any more advice to myself and the op, then please feel free to say.

BTW, I am a fan of the simplistic style myself, and have also considered cases such as the corsair 550d and 650d, ty Pob255 for recommending the new design Fractal Arc

Oh, and sorry if my post is a little wordy, it is one of many aspects of posting that I have yet to master (the ability to be clear and concise in this one)

    Re: Case recomendations please

Fractal Design now has Define R4. 190mm cpu clearance, 26mm for cable management and 140mm fans front and back. 2x140mm fans move same air as 3x120mm fans.
