    Best case for ssds only

We have a media server in our house to the tune of 14TB and so I don't do any real storage of any kind in my rig. I've been dreaming for a while now of a case that would nicely fit my optical drive and my ssds and organising everything nicely to optimise airflow and quietness but all the cases that are being launched seem to have loads of unnecessary (imo) 5.25 and 3.5 bays getting in the way.

    Anyone got any suggestions?

At present I'm looking at the Carbide 400R to fit a 240mm radiator and 2 ssds nicely but only because I can't find better. Am I being stupid?

Re: Best case for ssds only

Off hand yes, you're being silly

The only cases you'll find the just have 2.5" drive bays are the very small form factor cases.

What exactly are you trying to put into it?

Sounds like you've got very specific requirements and to fill them exactly you're only option would be a scratch built case.
You then mention the carbide 400r which has four 5.25" + six 3.5" bays.

An SSD can be a range of sizes, but most people mean the standard 2.5" drive size, you can get adaptors to fit them into 3.5" bays easily, heck mounting an ssd to something is very easy.
All they did with carbide 3.5" trays to make them fit 2.5" drives is drill 4 holes in the bottom of each. (the hole position is standard for all 2.5" drives)
Heck I've seen SSD drives stuck onto the inside of a side panel with velcro tape before.
SSD's are light weight, generate little heat, don't vibrate and are not susceptible to basic knocks, bumps or movement.
Heck you could just have them sitting lose, the only danger there would be moving your pc and the SSD smacking into the pcb of something else and damaging a component.

Depending on exactly what you're after a mid-tower which has a full front of 5.25" only would probably be best.
I've seen someone make a tray for a 5.25" bay to hold two 2.5" drives, it was just one bit of flat metal, bent up at the ends with some holes drilled into it.
Heck, take an old optical drive, unscrew the casing and there you go a bit of metal already bent into shape, All you'd need to do is attach the SSD's by drilling some holes in it.

Now the other reason I suggest a case with a full front of 5.25" bays is that they are very adaptable, and it would be very easy to mount a radiator into the front.
(note you can only fit a 25mm rad and single layer 25mm fans in the carbide (ie it's only got a total of 50mm clearance in the top) where as if you use the front of a case you've got the full 5.25" bay depth to work with so could easily fit a 38mm thick rad with double layer of fans in push+pull

Sharkoon T9 would be good http://www.scan.co.uk/products/shark...gement-w-o-psu

If you're willing to spend then the Lian-Li PC-8F http://www.scan.co.uk/products/lianl...h-usb3-w-o-psu (you can easily remove the hard drive cage to put a rad in) or PC-P50 http://www.scan.co.uk/products/lianl...h-usb3-w-o-psu
