Cheap case to fit a 159mm heatsink?

In my infinite wisdom, I bought a Xigmatek Gaia SD1283 heatsink to replace a broken Arctic Freezer Pro 7. It's really excellent, giving 10c lower than the Arctic on an overclocked E4300 - but it's too big to fit in my (185mm) case!

I'm upgrading to a new Phenom X6 1090T setup in about six weeks, so I'm just looking for an el-budgeto case to keep this E4300 rig going until then. Problem is, most of the cheap cases (<£40) I can see are 175mm or 185mm so I'm guessing they won't fit this Xigmatek either.

Any recommendations? Thanks very much in advance for any help!

This case looks as though it should take a tall heatsink and the specs say 200mm wide. I've used Casecom cases in the past and they aren't too bad for the price, but do be careful of sharp edges. There are a couple more 200mm wide Casecoms on Ebuyer, or there's the Antec 100, but the Antec has 3.5" bays facing the back which can make replacing HDDs a lot more fiddly.

Exactly what I was looking for! Thank you so much.

Wow funny enough that is the case I wanted.

I thought most cases would fit heatsinks... well apart from uATX.

I was trying to look for a new heatsink, and that one you listed was the exact one I was looking at. Better cooling as the airflow isn't disrupted.

You could place another fan on the other side of the heatsink so it directs it to the rear, + more cooling. Or the other way around.

OHHH by the way, has anyone actually got this case? Does it allow 4x140mm fans. I am bit confused. Just to make use of the case.

AND bit unrelated but does anyone know what Bitfenxi Spectre LED fans are like? They look pretty cool, and I can't afford to spend too much on fans. I have 4x120mm F12 Arctic cooling, the multi-use ones, NOISY!

Heatpipes work best when horizontal so with a tower cooler you're better off having the fans blowing up rather than towards the back of the case. I believe this is one of the reasons why PSUs are migrating to the bottom of cases so that hot CPU air can be vented straight out the top of the case.

Re: Cheap case to fit a 159mm heatsink?

Haven't got experience of that specific case but I've built into one from the same family (for a mate) and they are glorious cases - remarkable feature set and really well built for the price. Not sure about the 4x 140mm fittings: from memory there are a couple of 120/140 fittings, but not as many as four. It's a damn fine set of cases though, and I'd heartily recommend them to anyone looking for a mid-range gaming rig on a tightish budget.

Re: Cheap case to fit a 159mm heatsink?

The casecom cases are very good cheap cases, well the very cheap sub £20 ones are not, but the KM series was very good, the K5 series is an improved version with a slightly better layout.
For £23 you'll not find a better case.

Beware the cable management can be a bit tight, esp if you try to pack it silly and fill everything up. (try to put a diver in every slot and you're going to hit serious issues.)

For fan, it can take 2x140mm fans in the top, 1x120mm on the back, if you have a tall cpu cooler then you can only mount 1x120mm fans of the side.
What I'd do in the way of setup is 2x140mm top fans exhaust, 1x120mm rear exhaust, 1x120mm front intake, 1x120mm side intake.
Also add 2x120mm fan filters to the side panel and too the bottom as well, Although I think the bottom might require you to make a custom fan filter.
120mm filters I'd suggest http://www.scan.co.uk/products/silve...an-top-product really nice for the cost or http://www.specialtech.co.uk/spshop/...pid-12014.html again nice for the cost.

The BitFenix fans are very good for the cost, they are quiet although air flow is a little low, However that's a big things about fans, you just cannot have lots of air flow while still being silent, I can go into great detail about fans if you wish, but as a base two fans on top, one at the rear, one in the front and one in the side will give you plenty of air flow and cooling even at low rpm's, and the bitFenix are great budget low rpm fans.

Re: Cheap case to fit a 159mm heatsink?

Thanks for advice sounds like a good case.
Also, why not 2x120mm side fans?

I would add filters because of dust etc. But my motherboard is a uATX and I haven't got much components, so this case should provide good cooling.

I have a Corsair power supply so cables shouldn't be an issue.

I was going to buy 4x120mm Bitfenix Spectre fans, I was wondering whether because of low airflow, but that was what attracted me most to them, low RPM, low noise and LEDs. My components run pretty cool, but for future upgrades this case should hold out for cooling?

Also, its smaller so easier manageable and picking up and moving around.

Thanks for advice, I think I will be getting those fans and case it'll be my first casecom case.

    Sounds good
