Blowhole Trim
Having given my case a nice blowhole in the side panel, I'm looking for some of that rubber edging to put around it. I phoned around a bit, but nobody seems to know what I'm on about. Does this rubber have a specific name outside the modding community, one that an electrical store, for example, would know of? Unfortunately, the number of modding stores in this country can be counted on a single hand, and so far, all have come up empty, save the rubber in full window kits. :inquisiti Thanks.

Surely it's just called rubber edging? My dad has some on parts of his car door to stop them getting scratched when he opened the doors into walls, lol.
-
That's what I called it at all of the places I phoned, and still no one had a clue. I went on to describe its use, and even then, none of them knew where to find something like that. :P

There are a lot of the modding shop that keep the rubber version - KustomPCs for one (I have seen it elsewhere also - Maplin?) Halfords should keep something similar. Its great stuff for covering up those sharp edges inside the case as well.
-
I should probably make it more clear that I'm in South Africa, and that said stores aren't found here. Thanks for the suggestion, though, Goreblast. :)
-
I have some spare but i don't know if it's going to be to expensive to post to S.A.
It's thin stuff not for windows.

Thanks for the offer, Crapshot. I plan to go bug electrical stores in person tomorrow, but if I can't find anything, I'll let you know. Postage shouldn't be expensive, should just be able to pop it in an envelope and send it, but I'll be happy to reimburse you for whatever it costs. :)
-
Sure thing.... Let me know.I've just bought myself a new case so i won't be needing any of it now.So if you want it....It's about 32" long lol.
-
I don't know if it's worth a try, but if you're careful you might be able to try black electrician's tape.
Otherwise try your local scrap yard and grab a bit off a car?

After some more searching, I came across the names that hardware (That is, DIY) stores would know - "window edging" and "C-string beading." Great, though, that no one in this town seems to sell the stuff. :o
So, seems I shall indeed be taking you up on your offer, Crapshot. YGPM. :)

Have you used rubber edging before? It really is not very nice, it looks rubbish for one, and also not the easyest thing to cut to the right length to fit a blow hole.
if you can its best to aviod using it, but then you have to either cut the blow hole very well, file and sand it down and probably also respray the case, or put a grill over it to hide the cut. A grill is 1000x nicer than window edging imho.

SilentDeath: Nope, I haven't. I have a grill, and it hides it mostly, but I'd like the edging in addition to it. Apart from the filing not being 100% even, the paint on my case is a baked enamel kind (According to the local paint shop, having given them the part that I cut off for a sample of the colour), so respraying is out of the question (According to said shop, such paint can only bought in industrial-size drums, and is, besides that, rather expensive). And it's starting to flake, so I'd like to try minimize any future damage. :( (Still, it was a really cheap case, so I don't overly mind. Looks pretty, too. :))
Caged: Panel edging? An example, perhaps?

I meant for another name it could be called
www.farnell.co.uk seem to call it this

Sorry to drag up an old thread but does anyone know where to get some blowhole trim other than Kustom PC's?
