Is there a way of modding a case to get a bit more sound proofing with out raising temps too much. My antec 300 is doubling up as gaming & HTPC at the moment.
Thanks

I don't envy you trying to sound proof but its best to just run it very quiet in the first place. I find the sound proofing doesn't really work.
I thought you could buy pre-made sound proofing components for the Antec 300, but I may have dreamt it as an ultra-quick Google didn't show up anything. Do you know which component(s) in particular are causing your noise, i.e. is it something some replacement case fans might help or is it something else like the PSU?
Having built a couple of units around the 300 recently that have all been ultra quiet......the answer is PWM fans, good tidy interior and speedfan.

I always find that the component which kicks out the most annoying noise which is the most difficult to isolate is hard drives. They often resonate and cause the entire friggen room to gently hum. Have a look at some rubber grommets or mouting boxes which convert to the next size up (i.e. 2.5 to 3.5 or 3.5 to 5.25) and stuff to try and dampen the vibrations for them. Here are some examples:

Have you had a look at bigger fans or just more efficient ones? As Shathis recommended above, have a look at some PWM fans. My personal favorite are the Akasa Apache and Viper. If you use them in conjunction with this:

All your case fans can spin at the same speed as your CPU so that when things are idle its near enough silent then when you start gaming or doing some media encoding and your CPU heats up, they will all spin up.
Graphics cards are always a bugger too, unfortunately this one is more difficult to sort out as graphics cards are just naturally noisy devices and buying more efficiant coolers for them is quite difficult without taking up 3 slots worth of PCI/PCI-E. You can use your drivers to set a fan profile which is better suited to your need than the standard one, just make sure you keep an eye on the temps!
