    Question Coolermaster-on-stilts?

Hey geniuses, anyone spare a minute for a poor dweeb?

I need to raise a Coolermaster case up at least a centimetre - and I don't want to put a book under each corner. Don't ask why...

...ok, ok I'll tell! Bottom intake fan + long pile carpet = nasty smell of burning!

Any suggestions where I could get suitable bit to replace/extend the existing case feet? Guy here suggested that hi-fi standoffs might be the best bet from chez Maplin, but I'd thought I'd check for a 'better' option before stressing the creddie card any further.

    Cheers, crossy.

Theres also the icute PC stands like this: http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/produ...duct_uid=59329

Or you could do what I did - go to B&Q and pick up a "trolley caster kit" (4 casters with bolt fittings, two of the casters lock), some large washers and appropriate bolts - costs about a fiver.

I would serious consider not using a bottom intake fan on a carpet though - that way leads to serious dust problems.
Now go away before I taunt you a second time.

Thx for the tip Rythmic, (and everyone who took the time/trouble to reply - like the stack-o-2p's idea!).

The box is currently on carpet, but I'm hoping to a more case-friendly wooden floor. Oh, and even I'm not stoopid enough to use a bottom suck-hole (isn't there a law against that? ) without a good mesh filter. Hello KustomPC's sell me a 12cm alu-mesh one please...

Hmm, fit castors and blu-neon string round the bottom of the case, could look pretty sharpppp.

Maybe someone will tell me if this is the wrong thing to do...

,,but could you reverse the direction of the fan so it's blowing out the bottom instead of sucking in.

That way you can have air being pushed in somewhere else in the case and then out from the bottom - might also prevent the smell of burning plastic.

Trouble is that it's cool air that tends to collect at the bottom of the case, which is why most cooling setups flow upwards. So with your setup the hot air would tend to collect. I've also been told that bottom-to-top flow is also best because (a) you only pick up a little heat from the non-cpu components, so it makes sense to cool the cpu last, rather than first; and (b) you also get an assist from the PSU's cooler fan. Maybe watercooling is the answer...?

    Ain't physics a bitch!

    Talking

Well, I've now got my CM-210-on-stilts, well actually castors. Wow - this is a good mod, certainly makes it easy to move around for access/cleaning/etc. Got a 12cm Antec 3led fan in as a bottom intake, with a a CM blue-led fan for top-mounted cooling-air intake and a second for a back-mounted exhaust. Works well, and is a deal quieter than before. Will be even quieter once I get a TT Thunderblade to replace the Antec.

Just in time too - discovered that I'd lost one of the blades on my GF-4400's H/S fan, so I've gone fanless on this courtesy of Zalman, so the extra cooling air input was real useful.

    Thanks folks

    Cross.
