    In need of an upgrade

Hey guys, I am kinda new to the community.

I mainly opened this post just for feedback on a decision that I am about to make.

I currently have a Coolermaster Storm scout, the case is okay, It has good airflow but I am need of a case that can tidy away all those nasty cables sitting and dangling around my components. I am quite a neat person when it comes to building PC's, I have done everything possible to make it tidy and have enough air flow.

    What I need is:

A case with grommets and open slots above and below the motherboard for the ATX/Power Cables etc to go through, a decent side panel, good air flow and enough space to work around and upgrade.

I have found a few cases that have these but I need your opinions on these. Do any of you have or had any of these cases? (I am not a corsair fan boy, I just like their design of the cases )

Re: In need of an upgrade

not much idea on the new corsair vengeance cases still too new, I've not seen any good reviews that do a real solid break down of it.

The only real thing it's got going for it is the military ammo box look, if you like that sort of thing, it's a real departure from corsair's other designs.

Of all the corsair cases I think the 600t graphite is my favorite for external design, followed closely by the new obsidian 550d (which isn't much like the other obsidian cases, which I don't actually like much)

Have you considered the silverstone raven 03? it's a bit of an odd layout but can be made very neat.

ps the grommets in the cable holes, unless the inside is coloured, a hole in the motherboard tray doesn't show up much if the case is an all black inertia.
In the original obsidian 800d and 700d they did serve a purpose, they are a separated cell design and air was feed behind the motherboard tray.
It's a nice added extra but I'd not count them as of vital import.

I really do like the look of the military case that corsair has made, it looks great!

I have personally seen the 600t graphite white, my friend has it and he has done a terrible job on the cable management It is definitely a good case for all the reasons I need but I don't like aesthetic look to be honest.

Originally, I had my eyes set on buying the RV02 in my current build but when it came to money, I just couldn't afford The RV03 is a decent case, I like the fans at the bottom and there is plenty of room behind the motherboard for the cables etc which is awesome! The price struck me at first, looking on scan seeing it for less than £100, bargain? I will definitely bare that in mind.

    Cheers for the recommendation!

Re: In need of an upgrade

I think my main complaint about the rv03 is that it doesn't look as good.

another couple you can look at
    Antec 1100 http://www.scan.co.uk/products/antec...e-case-w-o-psu
    Coolermaster Storm Trooper http://www.scan.co.uk/products/coole...usb-30-w-o-psu

    dropping down the scale
    Fractal design Arc midi http://www.scan.co.uk/products/fract...e-case-w-o-psu
    Cooremaster HAF 912+ http://www.scan.co.uk/products/coole...g-case-w-o-psu
Coolermaster Storm enforcer http://www.scan.co.uk/products/coole...su-new-version (same internal frame as the haf 912+)
These 3 are not really any bigger inside than your scout but do have extra width (esp more space behind the motherboard tray) and motherboard cabling cut out holes, so running cables behind the motherboard tray isn't an issue

    Finally the BitFenix Raider http://www.specialtech.co.uk/spshop/...pid-14908.html
This is a bit smaller still but still have decent space behind the motherboard tray.

Re: In need of an upgrade

I recently bought the Corsair 550D and it is as good as the reviews show it to be.

The 550D can accommodate up to 6x 140mm fans(I have 4 installed, no need for ones on the side panel) and has a great system for opening the side panels, quick and easy to open. I also like the simple look of the case, not a fan of flashy designs, simple and functional is my preference which the 500D meets. Fan locations include rubber mounts that screws fit through, more secure than acousti mounts and just as effective at reducing vibration noise. The easy to access fan filters were the icing on the cake for me, makes my life so much easier when it takes less than a minute to take all the filters out and then a similar amount of time to clean them, also means less cleaning to be done inside the case.

For me the 500D was perfect and from what you have said I think it is perfect for you as well.

Out of the many that you have linked, the Storm Trooper case looks the best in my opinion. The face of the RV03 does look weird but it ticks everything else I guess..

I think the mid towers have many similarities to the Storm Scout I am using currently, although the 912 looks awesome inside but wheres the side panel window?

As for the BitFenix Raider, the design is very nice, I like the mesh look on the exterior but again, no window.

550D is a very simple case indeed, corsair design really nice cases. With the Storm Scout, I had to take the roof of the case off just to get the fan out due to the manufacturer using an improper screw. The reason for taking out the fan is because there simply wasn't enough room inside the case, I had a pickle with the 4 pin ATX as you couldn't unplug it without damaging it as the clip lodged itself underneath the fan's framing (lol) .

Now, I think its between the corsair cases I linked originally, the RV03 or the Storm Trooper.

    Cheers for the feedback guys,

    Louis

I quite like the look too and I was considering it as my next case but then I read a review of it on anandtech.com. The test results aren't too bad but there are definitely cases out there that perform much better for the same money.

I guess it's just down to personal preference and what you can afford.

On that note, I have narrowed it down to the 650 D or the C70, both by corsair.

I partially agree, but also the results they got are near rubbish.
They pretty much admit it themselves, they note that admit that the results would be far better if they had moved the fans from the side of the drive cage to thee front of the case, but they didn't bother.
Yes corsair should get negative points for putting the fans there as default, having fans on the inside side of the hard drive cages can help move air around and through the case but doesn't help pull air in as the drive cage is too much of a disruption to pull air in neatly from outside, so they'll pull a lot of air from beside them so pulling the air round in a cycle.

For a case like this, which is both a higher price tag and aimed at a gamer/lan enthusiast user, it would never be used with just the stock fan setup.
And if you do then quite frankly you're an idiot who shouldn't expect any better.

Look at the numbers in that article, the temperatures are well within safe ranges, yes on the overclocked cpu it was 6 to 10 degrees higher, but still within safe ranges and if you cannot figure out that you need to change the fan layout or put extra fans in to improve the air flow then you should not be overclocking in the first place.

It's one of the things I don't like about the AnandTech case reviews, they've reduced the real in depth look at a case in favour of some often very meaningless numbers.
It would be like doing cpu reviews but totally ignoring overclocking.
