Good, quiet case for under £70?

So, within a week, I shall be buying all the components to build my first ever self-built PC. I'll have a knowledgeable friend on hand, but I've asked him only to step in he sees something that's not right or to stop me from frying the PC/myself. However, the case is proving the most troublesome. As the title says, I'm not looking to spend over £70, and was wondering if you guys had any recommendations. Going into it will be:

    Gigabyte Z77
    i5 3570K
    Either a 7870 or 670
    8GB RAM (duh!)
probably around a 550W modular Antec
    Samsung 830 128GB SSD and a 3.5" 500GB HDD
    DVD-RW drive

I'm not going to be overclocking, hence the lack of a CPU cooler, and my main specification is that above all else it is quiet. Stylistically I prefer minimalist designs, and so far I've singled out the:

    Silverstone Precision PS07B (m-ATX)

    and the

    Coolermaster 500 silencio

I've read various reviews, has anyone had experiences with these cases, or could suggest better alternatives?

    Thanks for reading

A quiet case is only so because of the fans inside of it. Try and spec yourself a quiet CPU fan / case fans. A quiet PSU and aftermarket fans for the GPU.

So will there not be much difference, for example, between a Fractal R3 and a non-soundproofed case? And yeah had been considering that, reviews seem to point towards Sapphire's 7870 for a quiet card.

Ah Ok, maybe I've been overestimating how much I actually need a case that's soundproofed. However, that still leaves me with the dilemma of choosing one of the damn things!

Re: Good, quiet case for under £70?

It's a nice case but be warned that it is mATX not ATX, which means you need an mATX motherboard other than that not an issue.
Currently my list of the best 3 mATX cases are the Silverstone Precision PS07B, the TJ08e (which is the same frame just a different front bezel) and the fractal design ARC mini.

On cases and sound, fans and vents are key factors here with hard drive mounting coming next, it quite easy after looking at fan sound to end up with the hard drive as the loudest thing in the case and often vibration can be a major issue.

Lots of air vents can help with cooling but also let sound leak out, lots of or high rpm fans help with cooling but add noise.
The Fractal design R3 is very nice, it's a good case and has the added benefit of vents with covers so you can leave them closed to reduce sound or remove the covers and add fans to improve the air flow.

Re: Good, quiet case for under £70?

Thanks for the reply. Yeah I was aware of it being an m-ATX case, the only downside seems to be an extra £10 on the motherboard but that's it. I'll just have to check Scan's daily deals everyday and see if any stand out, I don't suppose anyone could suggest any other good sites with weekly or daily deals?

P.S. Just spent the last 5 minutes stalking and falling in love with your laptop mod, very nice work

What about the Fractal Arc Midi or Mini. Very sleek and has a good layout and loads of room for cable management.

The fractal cases are VERY well sound proofed i have an XL with my server in it and it is barely audible but it does depend on what fans and possibly aftermarket cooling solutions you are using

Re: Good, quiet case for under £70?

I have a Lian Li PC-B10, nice case and quite! But! I built my sister a computer from scratch and went for a Fractal Design Arc Case. This I really liked, would get myself if i had to choose a case again.

My case is quite because it has a door and no side panel for a fan. And i prefer air to be sucked in one end and out the other, simple and it works!

I use resistors to slow my fan speeds down. ( came with the NOCTUA SE1366 NH-U12P ) And if my computer was to get too hot in the summer i can take them off!
