Aerocool Strike-X One - Good buy?

Hi, going to go with new case and I found a Aerocool Strike-X on CCL's website, looks very good.

I can get it for £32, anyone had experience of it? I have a large heatsink, Xigmatek Thors hammer and am a bit worried that it won't fit.

The cooling capacity of the case is great. Is £32 reasonible for this case or are there better cases available?

I probably won't use all the fan mounts because of the noise and the need of a fan controller, but because I haven't got enough fans I won't be using any for a dual fan configuration on my heatsink?

The reason to upgrade is for the cooling capacity and a bottom mounted PSU for top exhaust fans.

you might want to consider getting dust filters, as a cool case can become a hot case as dust accumlates. What is your budget?

Re: Aerocool Strike-X One - Good buy?

    Externally . . . personally I think it's a big ugly, but that's a personal thing.

Internally it looks a lot like the sharkoon cases, the use of just 5.25" bays, no 3.5" bays instead adaptors, although they just seem to be plastic trays, so no anti-vibration unlike sharkoon (although you could get anti-vibration adaptors separately)

Filtering and dust will be a major issue, you've got the large X shaped mesh on the side panel which looks rather large and open, and a large vent on the bottom, which is also unfiltered.
You could make filters for them but you're not going to be able to buy anything off the shelf.
However that does give it a lot of airflow and cooling potential.

On cpu cooler, looks like the stock fan position on the side panel is over the cpu socket area, that would have to be removed and placed somewhere else to fit in a large cpu cooler (going by the dimensions of the case it should have around 160-165mm clearance with that fan removed)
Looks like the side panel only has mounting holes to put the fan above the cpu socket (would it really of cost that much to add a couple of more sets of holes in?)

For cabling options it is a bit backwards, reminiscent of the original coolermaster 690 or antec p180 or 300, in that it's not designed to have cables behind the motherboard tray so there's not holes and the overall narrowness of the case means there's probably not enough room behind the tray anyway.
You've got a series of plastic loops on the motherboard that you can clip the cables into, not hidden but they can be fairly neatly held in and keep the main air path clear.

for £32 it seems ok, for that price you're getting an ok case, I don't think I'd pay any more than that for it.

Re: Aerocool Strike-X One - Good buy?

Sorry think I mistyped, its the Strike-X one, looks similar to the strike-x but without the big ugly X shapes.

http://www.aerocool.com.tw/index.php...-x-one-advance Also theres only one 120mm area for a filter at the bottom.

Thanks for the links and help, the internal is the same and from that picture it looks like my heatsink may be a squeeze.

So all in all this case is pretty standard, main feature is airflow?

I was looking around and again came across the Casecom K5-7688, and Sumvision Arena 400. The only reason the Strike-X one appealed to me was the amount of room to customise your fan positions.

£30 ish is pretty much around my budget.

I have a couple of filters lying around to use. Looks like an alright case from the pictures, but I have a feeling my Xigmatek Thors hammer is going to be a squeeze, but I suppose it'll be a squeeze in any case really because its so large?

Re: Aerocool Strike-X One - Good buy?

From the pictures and what you said its pretty standard. I just measured my case up, 180mm width is way too small for my heatsink.

Now looking at a case I had my eyes on for a long time, the Casecom K5-7688, around £27 with postage on ebuyer. Can hold 140mm fans on side and top, with standard front bays.

I think the heatsink is going to obstruct one of the side fans so has anyone got any alternative heatsink which isn't too pricy, maybe £15 which has decent performance as my Thors Hammer. It cost me £18, I have it at dual configuration but its definitely going to be too big. My fans touch the heatsink in my current case, the K5-7688 is 1.5CM smaller so I would have to have the fans on the outside of the case.

Any heatsink at pretty much same performance or better would be appreciated. It is for overclocking and gaming thanks everyone

Re: Aerocool Strike-X One - Good buy?

Changed my mind on the Strike-x ONE, its bit standard.

Think I should risk it, the case is 190mm wide and my heatsink is 160mm tall.

Going to go for a cheaper case, otherwise I will have to go for a £50 case to get what I want .

Re: Aerocool Strike-X One - Good buy?

A 190mm wide case will generally fit a 160mm tall heatsink (depends how close the motherboard is to the right side panel) yes you will lose a fan slot on the side panel directly over the heatsink however a tower cooler gets no benefit from having air blown down onto the top of it any way so it's no real loss.

I still rate the casecom K5's as the best sub £30 cases I prefer the K5-9388 it's slightly more at £27.99 (the K5-7688 is £21.06) however I prefer the planer bezel and it includes a 140mm top fan and a dust filter for the bottom vent.
And it will fit that cooler btw

Re: Aerocool Strike-X One - Good buy?

Thanks Pob appreciate your help I know I am a bit on and off with cases, just don't want to make a purchase I know I will regret.
Also wonder why many cheap cases provide a good amount of features compared with the top brands. The K5 series offers a lot of features.

Anyway yeah I don't mind about losing one side fan, I know its the underneath I really need to get to. But the reason why I am considering the cheap CiT Jupiter is because of the large free space in the HDD bay, it doesn't officially support fans but I could easily throw in another front fan because the front is meshed? http://www.advancetec.co.uk/acatalog...Case-red-2.jpg

That K5-9388 is very nice. Because I only have 2x 3.5" HDD and 1x DVD drive the bays are free, think I could squeeze in another front fan on that case (K5-9388).

Re: Aerocool Strike-X One - Good buy?

Still debating about cases going to go with K5-7688. But for a second, wondering if this could be worth a shot. Its a strange looking case I found on eBay, asked the guy for some pictures, its a Compucase HEC 66RC. Known as HEC Blitz also.

    http://www.compucase-hec.co.uk/pccase_atx_66.htm

Has some nice touches, removable top bezel for installing from what looks like 2x 12cm fans, so they are excluded from the inside of the case. A holder for some random things, meshed side panel which I assume can hold some fans (at least 1). Only downside is the generic interior white look and that its 190mm thick. It has shock proof rubber features on the HDD area.

Recon its worth a shot? Its new on eBay with some scuffs on the side, but going for £20 (including P&P).

Re: Aerocool Strike-X One - Good buy?

Found someones setup over at overclock, he managed to fit a Sycthe Mugen in there but without the side fan, so looks like theres some room. My heatsink is 0.5mm taller than the Mugen. Heres the setup: http://www.overclock.net/t/836136/my...d-notes-inside (Pictures at the bottom of the page)

Main question really, what things do I need to fill in some chips? The case has one small chip on the right panel showing its underlayer, bit of paint?

I may just go for this case, because from the looks of it you can fit another front fan: http://www.upload.ee/image/1272503/IMG_8555.JPG
