Question Fractal Design Define R4 - Recommendations for quiet 140mm fans?

    Hi.

About to order myself a Fractal Design Define R4 case and wanted some recommendations for adding some additional quiet 140mm fans. The case comes supplied with two Fractal Silent Series R2 140mm fans (one at the front of the case and one at the rear). I'm hoping these are quiet and won't require upgrading? Would be interested to hear from any owners of this case?

There's space for an additional five 120 or 140mm fans in the case. A second fan can be fitted at the front, one in the base of the case, one on the left hand side and two in the top of the case. Not sure I need to add any more than one to the top of the case, one on the side and possibly a second at the front (as I'm likely to install 3 x 3.5" HDD's in the bottom slots and may even remove the upper HDD rack for better air circulation).

Would appreciate recommendations for quiet 140mm fans that will fit this case and where I might purchase them from for the best price?

    Many thanks.

    Cheekster.

Re: Fractal Design Define R4 - Recommendations for quiet 140mm fans?

I have an R3 and left the two supplied 120mm fans in as they are suitably very quiet. I then added another intake from Noctua, a NF P12 and for the top 140mm a bequiet silent wings two.
I left the bottom and side mounts covered by the noise insulation. The idea being that I have an overall air flow from front to back.

I've been very happy with the result. Temps on the CPU are unbelievably low. The GPU, in the R3 is blocked from a lot of fresh air by the non-removable drive trays, so gets average temps. My Overclocked 7970 runs its cooler at 75% to keep temps at 61C. But this isn't a probelm for your R4.

I got my fans from Amazon and Scan, simply on the basis of price. Shop around.

    Thanks for the reply.

Do you recommend that I too just add one top fan plus an extra front fan, both 140mm?

Re: Fractal Design Define R4 - Recommendations for quiet 140mm fans?

It works for me. I assume you're after quiet running, as it's an R4, so the less fans the quieter it will be.
Try it with 2 intake and 2 exhaust and see how it goes. I sincerely doubt that you'll need any more than that though.

Re: Fractal Design Define R4 - Recommendations for quiet 140mm fans?

Yes, I'm after a quiet running rig. So, two front intake fans, the existing rear exhaust fan plus one additional one in the top of the case?

    Ta.

Great stuff, just added them to an existing order from Scan for a graphics card. Might arrive on Wednesday, hopefully when my Define R4 case arrives?
