    Re: HTPC Case Options

In that case you may be better off just getting a mac mini - fan only kicks in under heavy load so not very often. Makes a god HTPC - comes with the remote etc. Obviously not black or full width....

Impressive - does the Pico not heat up a lot? I'd be interested to know...

There are quite a few build threads kicking around the forums using PicoPSUs in some pretty hefty systems, using a lot more power than Ulti's will, check this thread for an example of what can be done, even with passive cooling...

Just to add, I'd imagine the Pico will get hot, but as they are 96% efficient, (the board itself, obviously the power brick isn't) there shouldn't be too much heat.

It does run quite hot when there's no airflow in the case at all which is what shortie87 seems to be going for.

I used to have a 140mm fan blowing over the fanless CPU heatsink, motherboard and picoPSU at a slow speed and the picoPSU runs pretty cool. I've now just got the standard 92mm CPU heatsink fan that came with it instead as I find it a bit quieter (the Streacom F7C has no top vents so there's not much room for air to get in anyway) and the picoPSU runs just as cool as it's a top down cooler so air is blown over the board and picoPSU anyway. The case does also have a 80mm exhaust somewhat close to where the picoPSU is which also helps with the airflow.

Mind you the ambient temps are pretty low as it's pretty cold right now (much better than the last two weeks though!.
