    2.5" to 3.5" Mounting Bracket

    Hey all,

Got a Coolermaster Elite 342 Black Micro ATX Case for my parents PC, installed a SanDisk SSD, but there are no mount points for a 2.5" drive in it (unlike my Fractal Design R4). I wanna buy them a mounting bracket to fit it in, but not sure if they all follow the same standards. I found a OCZ one that said it was "optimised for OCZ SSD's", but if they are all the same standard, how can this be? Unless it's marketing spiel of course!

Would it do the job OK?

    Cheers,

    Allen

Yes they are all standardized, it's just marketing speal
But you can mount an SSD almost any place in a case with simple sticky backed velcro tape, no moving parts, no great cooling demands, no great weight, ssd's can be put almost anywhere without trouble, you don't really need to have 4 screws holding them down, you just want to keep it from moving about if the case is moved and ether a cable coming lose or it bashing into something.

Standard 2.5" drive mounting holes & dimensions http://support.wdc.com/images/kb/2_5_mount.jpg
That's an PATA drive but it's the same for SATA, SSD's and any other 2.5" drive/device

You could just as well use a few elastic bands too or some string and tie it to somewhere and then you won't get any residue anywhere (not sure if velcro tape leaves residue but I assume there must be a bit).

Re: 2.5" to 3.5" Mounting Bracket

I just bought a simple rubbery plastic toolless bracket found on ebay for 99p (shipping from China). Does the job, SSDs are so light weight it doesn't really matter what you use as long as it's sturdy.

It was This one, but looks like they're going for £1.99 now.

Re: 2.5" to 3.5" Mounting Bracket

Well the whole point of velcro tape is one half is left in the case and the other is on the drive so you can still easily remove it, if you upgrade the drive and want to sell the old one then you would have to peel the tape off it and probably clean off any residue before you sell it, but that's not a great deal of hassle

PS stick the hook side of the tape to the case as it's the loop side that slowly wares out.
