The way they have worked the space is very good & cooling for the CPU is great ! Not sure how cool that GTX580 within the picture would be within the case ?

    Re: NCASE M1 mini-ITX case

case is nice, the usb&audio at the bottom look a bit awkward to get to, personally I'd of preferred to be at the top or in the middle at one edge, but in the limited space it wouldn't really be possible.

What's more interesting is they way they are doing it, putting a kickstarted together to design it and get lian li to make a limited run.

Just want to point out that it's $10 to to be able to order one not get one, the cost will be
The retail price of the M1 is projected to be between USD160 - 200
+the $10 to get on the shipping list + delivery/import charges Oh and they are currently sold out on the shipping list slots.
Still it's a novel way to produce a high end case.

A bit late to this CAT!

They've already got the prototype from Lian Li: http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1717132

Looks really good IMO, especially for those with high end SFF builds, this is the case for them.

    Re: NCASE M1 mini-ITX case

Looks like a really nice case, well thought out and flexible.

Easiest money Lian Li ever made.

I always get confused as to why companies who make consumer products don't utilize internet forums a little better. I remember starting a thread on the Antec ones giving them suggestions about how they could improve their cases, and barely any, if anything of what was said was brought into their cases. Totally free and easy R&D, completely ignored.

Imagine the amount of quality feedback corsair could get just buy asking what people wanted, or putting up a competition for designs...

What would be fairly simple would allowing users to customise their cases. I mean we see the odd windowed side panel sold separately, but why stop there?

Why not have modular cases where you could have the exact same internals, but you could outfit it as either a silent or performance case depending on user preference. You could have 3 top panel, one plain, one for fans, one for a rad. Not to mention different colours like BitFenix do with their prodigy.

I kind of agree but I think there is quite an overhead on manufacturing costs which makes it difficult to achieve and still make a decent profit. Didn't one company try this once?

Surely it can't be more expensive than designing two totally different cases?

    Re: NCASE M1 mini-ITX case

I've with Willzzz here, I've asked about this before, the main reason seems to be that the case industry is very clunky it has it's own way of doing things and that's it.
Some of it is connected to mass fabrication processes and setup, eg to make a side panel you need to start with a big sheet of steel, you need to start buy cutting that up into smaller bits to make each side panel, just a slight change to the size of the panel could have a big impact on the number of pannels per-sheet.
Then you need to cut each bit to shape. This is often done via stamping, not saw/laser/mill cutting as that's generally to expensive and time consuming to do on large scale.
Then each cut out shape is folded
Stamping and folding machines can produce a lot in a fairly short time, but have the down side that setup cost is high, and you generally cannot make small alterations, so if you want to make a small change you have to make a whole new stamping form.

If you look at what manufacturers actually do, there isn't a great deal of completely new cases, a lot of the time they just tweak old chassis and change the aesthetics. Look at how many cases corsair have built around the 600T chassis design. I suppose they could start making it modular and build your own, but they haven't yet do there must be some complication in manufacturing cost.

    Re: NCASE M1 mini-ITX case

Well I think it's that Corsair want to disguise the fact that they are built around the same chassis.

In a modular system all the panels would be the same shape (dimensions), they'd just have different sized holes.
Even something as simple as aligning fan mounts differently for water/air cooling.

    Re: NCASE M1 mini-ITX case

I still think it would be possible to do and could be very good, I had such high hopes for the Antec Lanboy Air, the way they made it a single frame work with modular internal layout and screwed on panels meant that they could of produced a whole range of different panels and internal options, such a shame they made a total pigs ear of it.

I think the biggest issue and stumbling block is volume & stock production combined with a rather ridged working practices.
