Are Cold Cathodes A Bit Old Hat Now?
I been looking for a 12" cold Cathodes tube for a project I am working on, which will light up the front of an old radio. That I will be using as a PC case for my new build. I just can not find any for sale. I need white, I already have a blue and UV in the parts box.
I have seen the LED strips but most are rated at 3.5w I know this is not much but it all add ups. Also LED's do not give a uniformed light like a tube does.
Any other ideas for lighting?

Yes. It's all about EL wire or LED strips these days. You can diffuse the light on LED strips to give a more uniform effect.

Just realised I can't PM you
In any case
just google
"Sharkoon 30cm Cold Cathode Tube 2 in 1 Kit White"
I looked at the first 2 results and both had stock
Re: Are Cold Cathodes A Bit Old Hat Now?
I still use cold cathodes because, well, they work. But as ever the inverter is the thing to worry about.
LED strips can flex and is more power efficient. You also don't need to worry about any external devices that need to power it up as such.
Whatever fits for the job I say ;)
+1 for the Sharkoon cathodes, they seem decent quality. Akasa are also good. But cathodes are pretty generic now and not very widespread.

Re: Are Cold Cathodes A Bit Old Hat Now?
Beware of the cold cathodes advertised as RED. My friend got a couple of them (posted a picture of the PC somewhere on the forum) and he swears that they're PINK and they will rob all his street cred.
Buy some other mod items at Scan and as soon you hit £20 ex VAT, go checkout for free shipping.
I couldn't find a cheaper overall even at eBay.
